In an ancient Egyptian tomb, archaeologists unearth golden 'tongues' and 'nails': 'Astonishing discovery'

During an excavation in Egypt, gold "tongues" and "nails" were discovered by archaeologists.

On Saturday, the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities made an announcement on Facebook about the discovery of objects at the Al-Bahnasa archaeological site in the Minya Governorate.

The estimated time frame for the artifacts is during the Ptolemaic era, which was when Macedonian Greeks ruled Egypt from 305 BC to 30 BC. The dissolution of this era signified the conclusion of Hellenistic Egypt and the start of Roman rule.

The tourism ministry announced that in addition to various amulets and jars depicting Ra, Isis, Horus, and Osiris, 13 human tongues made of gold were discovered in the tombs.

The archaeological expedition, conducted by the University of Barcelona and the University of Chicago, unearthed several Ptolemaic tombs with vibrant carvings and inscriptions, as well as other distinctive archaeological discoveries, according to the tourism ministry.

In addition to a gold medal of mummies from the Ptolemaic era, ancient Egyptian texts and landscapes were discovered, providing a valuable addition to the history of the region and shedding light on the religious practices of the era.

The tourism ministry announced that in a discovered tomb, two heart scarabs were found in the mummy, along with 29 amulets for Ra's pillars, two scarabs of deities such as Horus, Thoth, and Isis, and a combination of the three idols together.

An ancient mass cemetery was discovered by archaeologists in a tomb with a main hall, which was reached through a rectangular stone burial well.

"The walls of one of the chambers in the cemetery are adorned with drawings and writings depicting the owner and his family members in front of the idols Anubis, Osiris, Horus, Atum, and Thoth. Additionally, the ceiling is decorated with a painting of the deity Nut, in white on a blue background, surrounded by stars and sacred vessels carrying some deities such as Khepri, Atum, and Shara."

The archaeological mission unearthed a number of graves from Greek and Roman times, an ancient Catholic basilica, and the Temple of the Osireion prior to the most recent discoveries.
