The New York City couple who sold tickets to their "wedding experience" last June has defended their actions after their 12-hour event went viral on video and social media this month.

On June 24, 2023, Kareem ("Reemo") and Nova Styles got married, and their wedding videos have sparked debates on social media.

"Our wedding was anything but traditional, as we sold tickets to our special day," Nova Styles shared in a TikTok video, continuing a series about our unique wedding experience.

In the video, the bride stated that they had a 350-person guest list, but only 60 invitations were sent due to the day's dynamics.

The couple sold $333 tickets for the "Styles Wedding Experience" to their guests.

""They trusted the process by purchasing a ticket to attend our wedding," she said."

The couple's guests rode a customized "hop-on, hop-off" double-decker tour bus to the wedding festivities, starting with the wedding ceremony at St. Patrick's Cathedral in midtown Manhattan.

After the wedding ceremony, the guests visited Hudson Yards, a movie theater, and One World Trade Center for dancing, food, and merriment, with photo shoots taking place throughout the night, as stated by Nova Styles in the videos.

Numerous commenters on the wedding day posts were critical of the couple's approach, labeling them as "greedy," "tacky," and "cringe."

"Oh you broke broke," said one Instagram user.

"One TikTok user stated that only 60 guests out of 350 attended the event, which implies a lot. Additionally, the user expressed that they would be offended if asked to spend $333 per guest."

"If you can't afford it, refrain from doing it," the user stated.

The couple defended the ticket cost and sale, stating that the total revenue from the 60 tickets did not cover the wedding day expenses and that the size of the bus limited the number of guests they could invite.

Reemo and Nova Styles did not want to cut their wedding guest list down to 60 people, so they sold tickets to the event instead. The number had to be limited because of the size of the bus, they said.  (REEM Photography)

The couple wrote, "It's preposterous to believe that 60 tickets could cover the 12-hour wedding day we had! It was not the case and we had to pay for our entire wedding ourselves!"

Despite criticism, others defended the couple's unique approach to their wedding day.

"One Instagram user stated, "If they're willing to pay, it means they wanted to be there," to which the Styles' account responded, "Bingo.""

To reduce expenses on wedding days, others suggested that ticket sales could be a novel approach.

"Nigerian weddings are culturally significant and often attract a large number of guests. However, many attendees tend to arrive late and depart early, with few bringing gifts. Another Instagram user suggested that setting a price range for gifts, such as $333, could help filter out unwanted guests."

They hope to use the money to start a family.

The New York Post reported that the couple saved $70,000 on their wedding reception by charging tickets, and they plan to use the money to start a family.

Despite the numerous negative comments, the couple seems unfazed.

In a video on their social media, the two are shown pretending to cry before smiling and dancing, with the caption "The Comments Got Us Like…….

The couple was contacted by Planet Chronicle Digital for more information and comments about their wedding day.
