An illegal number of freshwater fish is being held by a Georgia fisherman, resulting in consequences.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Law Enforcement Division announced the retrieval on their Facebook page.

While monitoring fish activity on the Chattachoochee River, Game Warden Will Gilstrap observed something unusual.

According to the Georgia DNR Law Enforcement Division, Game Warden Will Gilstrap observed a subject concealing fish along the river bank while catching them.

The fisherman had 10 trout, as Gilstrap discovered after speaking with him.

According to the Georgia DNR Law Enforcement Division's post, the man was "charged" with "exceeding the limit of trout."

According to the Georgia DNR, the creel limit for trout on seasonal streams is 8 fish, and there is no size limit.

The trout caught by the unidentified subject were seized by Gilstrap and the Georgia DNR Law Enforcement Division. The specific fines or penalties the man may face are still unknown.

"Let him keep the 6 limit, but charge him. People are fishing, not doing drugs, fighting, or hurting anyone. Some rules and laws are ignorant," the user stated.

"Getting food for him or his family may be the only way out for those facing tough times," someone else commented.

The game warden's actions were defended by recognizing the need for restrictions to maintain a healthy trout population and enable other anglers to catch fish.

If everyone catches an unlimited amount of fish, there will be limited resources for all fishermen.
