Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., representing Florida's 6th Congressional District, will release a new book this fall titled "Hard Truths: Think and Lead Like a Green Beret."

St. Martin's Press will release the book on Oct. 22, 2024.

A retired colonel and the first Green Beret to be elected to Congress, Waltz is a former military officer.

This week, Waltz stated in emailed comments to Planet Chronicle Digital that Green Berets are considered the best in the field of special operations warriors globally.

"In 'Hard Truths: Think and Lead Like a Green Beret,' I reveal the mindset needed for triumph in combat, business, and Congress."

He shared with me the challenges he faced as a Green Beret fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan, completing special forces training, and eventually becoming a congressman, where he tackled the complex issues facing America.

When I need military advice, I call Waltz.

In the 2024 national election cycle, Waltz is a prominent Republican voice on defense and foreign policy issues.

Waltz served in several tours in Afghanistan, the Middle East, and Africa while on active duty.

In Afghanistan, he headed the teams tasked with finding deserter Pvt. Bowe Berghdal.

Waltz recounts in his new book one of the intense moments he experienced during his military service, which took place in the mountains of Afghanistan. One of his snipers observed through his scope as a young boy assisted the Taliban mortars in attacking a Green Beret position.

Waltz refused to grant permission to the sniper to fire, urging caution.

In the book, Waltz states that the child was saved and the position was maintained.

That afternoon, Waltz visited an Afghan village and learned that the Taliban had strung up a boy in front of his family. The reason? The boy refused to fight for them.

Waltz stated that the challenging experiences he encountered during war, as well as the tough choices he had to make concerning life and death on the battlefield, inspired the themes of his book.

According to materials shared with Planet Chronicle Digital, the book will reveal how the mindset developed in military service can aid individuals in politics, business, or daily life in overcoming challenges.

The book emphasizes the importance of conflict resolution, discipline, and self-control, as taught by Green Beret principles. Determination, persistence, and bold leadership are also key elements of the book.

In advance materials, Jack Carr, a former Navy SEAL sniper and bestselling author of the "Terminal List" series, expressed his admiration for Congressman Waltz, stating that veterans who have given and contributed to America provide hope for the future.

"Veterans like Congressman Waltz who have sacrificed and invested in America offer hope for the future."

Waltz recognizes the significance of upholding moral standards in warfare and politics, and applying past lessons to build a better future for all.

Waltz, a former White House counterterrorism policy adviser, is also the author of the book "Warrior Diplomat: a Green Beret's Battles from Washington to Afghanistan."

He served for 27 years in the U.S. Army and National Guard before retiring during his second term in Congress, having graduated from the Virginia Military Institute with honors.

His biography mentions that he received four Bronze Stars, two of which were awarded for valor, in recognition of his actions in combat.

He is a married man with two children, having grown up in Jacksonville, Florida.

He is the son and grandson of Navy chiefs.
