Dog owner claims pet nearly died after accidentally consuming marijuana during a walk.
A dog was reportedly treated at an emergency vet after consuming marijuana.
A dog owner is cautioning others after stating that his pet was admitted to the hospital due to ingesting cannabis while on a walk.
While taking his 8-year-old West Highland terrier, Oscar, for a walk, Stephen Davidson observed the dog exhibiting unusual behavior.
According to SWNS, within a few hours of the dog walk in Sheerness, England, Oscar became lethargic and stopped drinking water, as stated by Davidson.
The British news agency reported that Oscar, after being rushed to an emergency veterinarian, was confirmed to have ingested marijuana.
"Davidson revealed that they gave him something to swallow to see if he would gag immediately, but there was a delay. It was then that they said he had been drugged."
PetMD, a pet care information source, states that symptoms of pet drug poisoning include vomiting, lethargy, abdominal pain, loss of appetite, excessive salivation, lack of coordination, and bloody urine.
Davidson stated that Oscar's dehydration could have resulted in his death, despite receiving an IV drip and charcoal medication at the emergency vet overnight, according to SWNS.
Davidson stated that he has nearly $1,000 in vet expenses that he hopes pet insurance will cover. Additionally, he wants to caution other pet owners about a possible drug problem in the area.
In this town, people are smoking it anywhere and then discarding it on the ground, according to the source.
Davidson stated that he plans to eventually resume his regular walking spot with Oscar, but not immediately.
He advised caution when walking dogs, urging people to be aware of potential dangers and what their dogs pick up.
Davidson reportedly took Oscar to the People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA), a veterinary charity in the United Kingdom.
A nurse from the PDSA stated that dogs can easily consume cannabis or any other drug while on public walks.
It is advisable to take your dog to the vet immediately if you suspect they have consumed cannabis, rather than waiting for symptoms to manifest, as suggested by the expert.
