Career coaches suggest the most productive tasks to accomplish early in the morning before work.
Here are five tips to help you start your day more productively, positively, and with a greater chance of success.
Updating your morning routine is a good way to move smoothly and successfully throughout the day.
Executive coaches and performance coaches share their top tips for maximizing your morning routine.
To ensure you're on top of your workload and accomplish tasks before the day begins, consider the following smart advice.
It's bound to get you thinking differently about your mornings.
Wear a variation of the same thing every day
To optimize your day, Jonathan Alpert, a New York City-based psychotherapist, executive performance coach and author of "Be Fearless: Change Your Life in 28 Days," suggests simplifying your wardrobe.
"Zuckerberg in a hoodie and Jobs in jeans and a black turtleneck," Alpert remarked.
During a public town hall meeting at Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park, California, in 2014, Mark Zuckerberg stated, "I want to minimize my decisions to only those related to serving this community," according to tech.co.
"I am fortunate to have a job that allows me to assist over a billion individuals daily. However, I believe that I am not fulfilling my responsibilities if I spend any of my time on trivial or unnecessary aspects of my life."
Said Alpert, "Makes sense to me."
He wears jeans almost daily because they are easy to pair with shirts, saving him time.
Embrace a positive mental attitude (PMA)
A strategy recommended by growth and change coach and consultant Deb Harrison, based in New York's Hudson Valley, for enhancing productivity and well-being is the "morning mindset for motivation."
I'm not working a night shift that ends in the morning.
By visualizing yourself accomplishing tasks, you can set the tone for your mental approach to the day upon waking, as suggested by Harrison.
"You could consider performing necessary chores in a calm manner," she suggested.
"Moreover, you can boost your confidence and calmness by engaging in mental imaging and positive self-talk, such as affirming, 'I will give my utmost effort today and be proud of my accomplishments, including the effort I put in,'" she emphasized.
Kick-start the day with hydration
Experts advise drinking a substantial amount of water upon waking up.
"Alpert stated that, despite its simplicity, this act has significant consequences."
Alpert stated, "Consider this: If you sleep from midnight to 7:00 a.m., you'll have gone at least seven hours without drinking water."
He stated that the average adult body is composed of 50-65% water, with blood being 82% water. Brain cells are 85% water and muscles are 75% water.
Still not convinced?
A study revealed that consuming enough water may enhance healthy aging and reduce the risk of illness, according to Planet Chronicle Digital.
To enhance the taste of water, you can add lemon or lime wedges or cucumber slices.
Block out time for a high-impact task
According to Andrea J. Miller, a D.C.-based leadership and performance coach and consultant, who specializes in career transitions and leadership development, a great way to start your day is by using the quiet of early mornings to plan your day with a focus on impact rather than activity.
Dedicate uninterrupted time to one high-impact task that will significantly impact your work.
Beginning your day with clarity about priorities helps create momentum before the official work day starts.
Before you sleep, tap into your unconscious mind
The idea of this concept is from Mitchell Creasey, the founder of The President's Coach, an executive coaching firm in Toronto, Canada.
At night, before going to sleep, consider asking yourself, "What tasks should I prioritize in the morning?"
Creasey said you shouldn’t try to answer it.
Rather, simply ask yourself the question — and then go to sleep.
He stated that your subconscious mind will sift through your mental tasks during sleep.
Before the work day begins, you'll know exactly what email to send, what post to write, or have the answer to the problem you've been wrestling with, as he said.
