Bride walks herself down wedding aisle after mom's tardiness: 'Invitation stated 2pm'
Her family arrived 45 minutes late to her wedding ceremony, as stated by a Reddit user.
Despite her mother's tardiness, a bride walked herself down the aisle.
A woman who got married recently turned to Reddit for advice after her wedding day went awry due to some late family members.
"As usual, the wedding day began with me inside getting ready while the final touches were made outside," she wrote in her August 27 social media post.
My grandma and family friend arrived at noon, as my mom had to run back to the hotel to change and return.
"Before I knew it, I was strolling down the aisle with no one by my side," she stated.
"Before we realize, the ceremony has already ended."
The bride said the three wedding guests arrived 45 minutes later.
My mother became hostile and started blaming the bakery for not having buns ready. Then, she said they were stopped by a train, and her favorite was, 'It's your fault you didn't call or text to see where we are.'
The bride replied with a straightforward statement, "The invitation specified 2:00," while also mentioning that the wedding officiant had another ceremony following hers, hence they were under time pressure.
The bride mentioned in a Reddit post that she discovered later that her mother was tardy at the wedding because she "had not yet finished getting ready."
According to Florida-based etiquette expert Jacqueline Whitmore, it would have been more appropriate for the person to call the mom to determine their whereabouts and reason for being late.
If the mother and grandmother were a few minutes late, it would not have been a big deal to wait for them at the wedding since many weddings run a little late due to various issues.
She also emphasized the importance of being punctual at a wedding.
The comments section of the bride's post was filled with opinions shared by other users.
The bride's friend argued that it was not the bride or groom's responsibility to manage family communication on their wedding day, stating, "If she received a text, she could respond. It's not the bride or groom's duty to keep track of family members."
Another Redditor concurred and stated, 'I wouldn't have delayed the ceremony for mom because with individuals like her, you can never predict when they will arrive. You must proceed with your life.'
Another user took an entirely different approach.
If my mom and grandma did not arrive within 15 minutes of the start time, I would have called because I believed they were deceased in a ditch somewhere.
Planet Chronicle Digital reached out to the bride for comment.
