Bride's family consumes entire buffet while Reddit user is kicked out for ordering pizza.
Bride's relatives consumed the entire buffet at the reception, according to a Reddit user.
An etiquette expert advised Planet Chronicle Digital that the Reddit user who was kicked out of a wedding after ordering pizza should have been more discreet and behaved better, even though the story has a happy ending.
"Adorable_Distance_15" posted on the "Am I the A--hole" subreddit asking if they were wrong for ordering pizza at their friend's wedding because there was no food.
The man stated in his post that he and his spouse recently attended his friend's wedding, which had approximately 70 attendees, primarily family members.
Upon arrival, we were assigned a table with other individuals. They were pleasant and we got along well, ultimately having a great time conversing.
Both my friend and his new wife were very happy at the wedding, which was also quite nice, according to Adorable_Distance_15.
He stated that after the wedding ceremony, each table received two bottles of wine, bread, and butter, and the bar was opened.
He remarked that the wedding reception was buffet style after the food appeared and looked delicious.
He was half-buzzed and eager to satisfy his hunger.
As dinner started, a few tables were called to the buffet at a time, according to Adorable_Distance_15.
This, however, was when the problems began.
"To my surprise, by the time we were called, there was nothing left."
"He no longer shames people for the amount they eat, but he observed that they took extra servings while he waited patiently for our table to be ready. Additionally, he noticed that they went for seconds before all the tables were called, and no one stopped them."
At the time, Adorable_Distance_15 stated that although he believed the behavior was impolite, he believed it was due to a large amount of food.
By the time we were called, there was nothing left, to my surprise.
He said, "After grabbing the 'scraps' that were left, we were all still pretty hungry, and a bit angry. So we kinda bash-talked that the first few tables ate all the food."
Adorable_Distance_15 "had the idea of ordering some pizza after someone suggested it."
"We ordered four large pizzas and chicken wings from a nearby pizza joint, which were delivered quickly," he said.
"I met the guy outside, brought the food to our table, and we began to eat."
We shared our pizza with other hungry people who noticed it, as Adorable_Distance_15 said.
It seems that this caused some disturbance, prompting the wedding party to inquire if additional pizzas were available.
"The Reddit writer stated that their friend came to discuss the reason behind their food order. The bride of the friend was unhappy with the decision. In response, the writer explained that they didn't get to eat as the food had run out before their table was called, leaving them famished."
"What were we supposed to do, starve?"
"What were we supposed to do, starve?" he said.
The leftover pizzas caused the wedding's dramatics to escalate when the bride's father noticed them.
"This is where I may have been the [a--hole]," Adorable_Distance_15 wrote. "There were two slices left, and I knew he was eyeing them."
"I asked my tablemates if they wanted one, but everyone declined. Then, this guy said he'd have one," he said.
"I took the two slices, put them on my plate, and started eating them. Then, I looked at him and said something like, "You and everyone at your tables had way more than your fair share of the buffet and ate all of it. That's why we ordered food in the first place. And now you have the audacity to ask us to share?""
At the moment, he was unaware that the person he was talking to was the bride's father.
The Reddit user wrote that the man's face turned red and he returned to his table, where there was a lot of discussion taking place.
"My friend had an argument with the bride, who became even more angry at us. He later returned to inform us that we needed to leave," he stated.
"My wife and I called a cab and left to avoid causing any problems."
A few days after the wedding, Adorable_Distance_15's friend shared his side of the story.
He acknowledged that his in-laws were impolite for consuming all the food and leaving the other guests with minimal options, causing about half of them to depart from the wedding reception after the food ran out.
Adorable_Distance_15 stated that he was upset with his in-laws because he informed them about the number of guests and requested them to order the food accordingly.
The writer on Reddit stated that his wife was furious with her in-laws because they believed they were entitled to eat whatever they wanted since the in-laws paid for the alcohol and food.
"He said that she wanted to apologize for booting me."
In a post update, Adorable_Distance_15 stated that his friend's wife was more upset than he initially said, but not at him. Instead, she was furious with her family.
Adorable_Distance_15 wrote that he said she wanted to apologize for booting me.
The father-in-law was planning to host an "after-wedding shindig" for all attendees of the original wedding and additional guests.
"He also assured me that there would be a variety of food, and he wanted to personally inform me that there would be 50 large pizzas from the same place I ordered from, which he thought would add some humor to the situation."
Planet Chronicle Digital reached out to Adorable_Distance_15 for any further updates.
Lisa Gaché, CEO of Beverly Hills Manners, stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that Adorable_Distance_15 should have been better prepared before making the move.
"Ordering pizza for a friend's wedding and consuming it is undeniably disrespectful to the bride, groom, and their families," she stated.
"A more discreet move would have been for the group to take turns going out to the parking lot to consume the pizza and return quickly to celebrate the happy couple," she said.
Instead of ordering food, Adorable_Distance_15 could have asked a waitstaff member if they could go up to the buffet when they noticed other tables receiving seconds, Gaché suggested.
"Having manners doesn’t mean you can’t communicate your needs."
""Perhaps it was just an oversight on the hosts' part and if the friends had spoken up sooner, they would have had plenty of food at the buffet," Gaché said."
Adorable_Distance_15 should consider having a more substantial meal during the day and keep a protein bar on hand in case the food runs out, as advised by Gaché.
Attending a friend's wedding as a guest requires enduring any unpredictable weather conditions, she stated.
