As Halloween decorations appear on store shelves, social media users express their frustration: 'Why can't we wait until fall?'
Shoppers are expressing their opinions about the sightings of fall 2024 and Halloween decor during warm-weather months.
Earlier each year, some people are trading pool time for pumpkin carving as Halloween merchandise floods store shelves.
Recently, social media users have criticized the early emergence of fall-themed decorations such as candles, skeletons, and bats.
One woman posted on X: "I hate the premature display of Halloween decorations in August. Can't we just enjoy summer first?"
Another user inquired, "Why are leaves falling in August and Halloween decor being displayed in July?"
"While I believe it's premature to celebrate Halloween, it's not too early for general autumn decorations," the woman stated.
One user expressed annoyance with others' fascination with making time pass more quickly, as they were already putting up Halloween decorations.
Another remarked that it was too early to have Halloween decorations up in July.
One user discussed the timing of switching to fall and Halloween decorations, and I suggested doing it over the weekend following Labor Day.
One woman expressed her disappointment that she has to wait until September 22 to put out her Halloween and fall décor, as fall hasn't arrived yet.
One woman implored, "Although summer has already lasted for a month, let us not rush to put away holiday decorations and Halloween candy. Instead, let us savor the current season we are in."
A New York-based clinical psychologist who specializes in mood and anxiety disorders in children, Stephanie Samar, stated that although there is no inherent issue with the early release of Halloween decor, some individuals may experience anxiety when looking too far ahead into the future.
"Anxiety takes us to a future that's full of fear, as Samar shared with Planet Chronicle Digital last year. We worry that we've made a mistake because we feel like we didn't prepare enough. Despite knowing that we'll be okay, our thoughts tell us otherwise when we're stressed or anxious about something."
Halloween decor, candy, and costumes may make people feel unprepared and as though they've missed the boat, according to Samar.
"In reality, if we don't have a Halloween costume and we throw something together, it's probably going to be okay. However, that's not how we think. Seeing the costumes around you could make you feel like you're behind."
Samar proposed adopting a "one thing at a time" approach and focusing on the present moment.
"Is this a pressing issue or a future concern?" Samar advised people to consider. "Is selecting a Halloween costume [essential] or is it ensuring I have enough supplies for the beginning of school?"

"She suggested speaking with a therapist if struggling with stress and anxiety as they can challenge unhelpful thoughts."

One man posted on X that seeing Halloween decor in stores is the only thing giving him hope that the summer heat will end.
One user stated, "I'm struggling to control my excitement. The stores are brimming with Halloween and fall decor. I can't wait to display my own collection. Fall and Halloween are my most cherished seasons."
This year, I am putting up my fall/Halloween decorations earlier than usual.
One woman said, 'I need Halloween decor too. Never too early.'
I used to work in retail, where we always stocked a season ahead. I'm sure most stores are currently stocking Halloween and fall decor and will be getting more and more Christmas merchandise daily.
Another said, "Fall and Halloween décor, I'm ready now, summer was cool but it's time to move on."
The first day of autumn is Sunday, Sept. 22.
Halloween will fall on a Thursday this year.
