An insider close to Reagan predicts that Trump will rise spiritually and politically after being shot, just like Reagan did.
Historian predicts that Trump's display of bravery and 'grace under pressure' will increase his popularity, similar to Reagan's experience.
A gunman tried to take down President Ronald Reagan in March 1981.
After surviving a near-death experience, the president rose both physically, spiritually, and politically, according to one of his closest friends.
Historian and Reagan biographer Craig Shirley stated in a phone interview with Planet Chronicle Digital that surviving the assassination attempt strengthened his faith and further embedded it in his heart.
"Despite facing intense pressure, Reagan exhibited remarkable composure and won over many people with his charm."
According to a historian and political insider, Donald Trump is predicted to experience a surge in personal faith, popularity, and power similar to Reagan due to his display of "courage" on Saturday evening, when a bullet narrowly missed his head.
""Despite their harsh criticism of Trump, even his most severe detractors acknowledge his bravery, as seen in his response to being shot, where he remained composed and did not show any signs of fear or self-pity," stated Shirley."
"Shirley stated that he did not assume a fetal position, instead he stood tall like a man. He raised his fist in defiance and shouted, "Fight, fight, fight!" as the Secret Service escorted him away from the stage."
Shirley worked on Reagan's successful 1980 and 1984 election campaigns and later served in the Reagan White House. She has since written six biographies about the Great Communicator.
Reagan, like Trump, was a populist Republican and D.C. outsider who garnered support in the Corn Belt and Bible Belt, but was loathed within the Beltway.
Shirley stated that Reagan's survival from being shot by John Hinckley, Jr. completely altered his relationship with the American people.
"Reagan suffered severe injuries when he was shot, including the loss of half his blood, a collapsed lung, and a bullet that was one inch from his heart. If those conditions aren't traumatic, I don't know what is."
Reagan coped with the trauma by becoming more devoted to his Christian faith and his belief in guiding the United States through the existential struggle against the "evil empire" Soviet Union during the Cold War.
According to Shirley's account, Georgetown University President Fr. Timothy Healy stated that Reagan was touched by the hand of God after the event.
Reagan stoically dismissed the spiritual reawakening and near-death experience publicly, however.
"I forgot to duck," he famously said to first lady Nancy Reagan, in cheeky dismissal of a trauma that nearly killed him.
Shirley remarked that there is a certain charm to a man who downplays a significant event.
During World War II, John F. Kennedy, a U.S. Navy hero, saved his PT-109 crew. When asked to describe his bravery, he humbly stated, "They sunk my boat."
Robert F. Kennedy's last words, as he lay dying from a bullet wound in the head, were about the safety of those around him.
In 1912, Teddy Roosevelt gave an 84-minute campaign speech despite being shot and having a bullet lodged in his chest from an assassination attempt. His shirt was soaked in blood when he arrived at the hospital.
Shirley believes that, like Reagan, Trump will become more devoted, resolute, and well-liked following his near-death experience.
"After being shot, Reagan reintroduced himself to the American people and showed grace under pressure, which changed his relationship with the public."
In 1984, Reagan won a 49-state landslide election against Democrat Walter Mondale.
