After 121 years, a postcard sent out of the blue finally reaches its destination.
The postage stamp on the mail is from 1903 and contains a personal update from someone.
After 121 years, a piece of mail arrived at its intended destination, with a stamp placed on it and sent off.
Earlier this month, the Swansea Building Society, a mortgage loan business in Swansea, Wales, was taken aback by a very old piece of mail.
The marketing and communications officer for the company, Henry Darby, informed SWNS, the British news service, that the mail arrived "totally unexpectedly."
The postcard, which is over 120 years old, was sent to Miss Lydia Davies on August 3, 1903.
Darby stated that the postcard arrived with the regular mail delivery and bore a stamp featuring King Edward VII from 1903. He pointed out that the writing style on the postcard indicated it was from that era.
He told Planet Chronicle Digital that this event is not just a rare occurrence, but a true anomaly.
"He mentioned that the postcard revealed a forgotten aspect of local history, providing a rare look at life in Swansea 121 years ago."
Darby stated that the postcard note reads, "Dear L. I was unable to obtain the pair of these. I apologize sincerely, but I hope you are having a good time at home. I currently have around 10 unreadable dollars, not including the train fare, so I'm doing okay. Please remember to convey my love to Miss Gilbert and John, as well as to all of them from (unreadable)."
The postcard's intended location is approximately 62 miles west of its original location in Pembrokeshire, Wales.
Darby stated that his company's building now occupies the location where traditional homes previously stood, and mentioned that the Swansea Building Society was established 20 years after the postcard was sent.
He stated to SWNS that the address is accurate, but it is 121 years later than anticipated, as we are still located at 11 (and 12) Cradock Street.
"It would be intriguing to discover what life was like on Cradock Street 121 years ago, even though it was a long time ago."
Society is utilizing social media to seek assistance in locating Miss Lydia Davies' family members in order to establish a connection.
Darby informed Planet Chronicle Digital that if everything proceeds smoothly, they may unite distant relatives who were previously unaware of each other's existence and return to them a family heirloom that can be passed down for future generations.
