A neighbor continues to break rules and is refused entry into an apartment building by a man.

A resident of an apartment complex on Reddit has been revealed to have taken surprising actions, despite breaking rules and owning a dog.

An individual has asked for opinions on a neighbor's ongoing problem with breaking rules in an apartment building, which was established by management.

""Am I the a--hole for not letting my neighbor in and making her and her dog sit outside in the dark?" asked Reddit user "THROWRA1900482" on the "Am I the a--hole?" page."

An etiquette expert was contacted by Planet Chronicle Digital for comment on the post, which has received 7,500 reactions from others.

To access the property after 8 p.m., you must carry your front door key with you.

Prior to moving in, we were informed that a tenant had moved in downstairs and would leave the back door unlocked for easy access.

Woman thinking
A woman who lives in an apartment building (not pictured) "has been told multiple times to take her front door key in case the door locks, which she has ignored." Instead, the woman apparently continues to bother others to let her into the building even late at night. (BSIP/Universal Images Group via Getty Images)

"Despite being instructed to take her front door key, she has disregarded the advice and ignored the lock."

She treats me like a doorman, repeatedly knocking on my windows and buzzing my apartment after 9 p.m., which riles up my dog daily.

I let her in twice in good faith, but then told her the third time to take her key and that I wouldn't be answering anymore.

She "again didn't bother to take her key, when she started buzzing and knocking on my windows loudly."

That didn't stop the apparent continuing infractions.

The poster wrote that she decided to go out with her dog this evening and, without taking her key, started buzzing and knocking loudly on my windows.

"It's dark out at the moment, late, and she's outside by herself with her dog," wrote a man on Reddit about an apartment drama he's been experiencing. "She's been out there for about 45 minutes. We also live in a shady area — not dangerous but definitely not pleasant at night." (iStock)

"I turned off my alarm, rewarded my dog with a snack, and sealed the doorways, opting to disregard her and proceed with my film."

This is when things changed.

"This is where I could be [the jerk]," the person wrote on Reddit.

"I don't know this woman aside from her treating me like a concierge."

The writer observed that she had been sitting outside on the doorstep angrily ranting about the writer to her friends, as if he were her father.

"Is it wrong of me to feel like I don't know this woman well enough because she always treats me like a concierge?"

The writer edited his post and wrote, "I couldn't sleep knowing she and her dog were outside, so I went downstairs and opened the door to tell her that this was the last time and I would report her to management and call the police if she knocked on my windows again."

Police siren
Sharing the story on social media, a Reddit user said he'd be calling the police on a fellow apartment dweller if she didn't follow the rules set by the building's management. (iStock)

He continued, "Despite those who advised against it, I can't ignore the fact that it's almost midnight and I don't want to leave her alone."

He added, "I assume she buzzes everyone in the block, but the other tenants silence their buzzers or ignore them. She only knocks on my windows because I am the only apartment that is on the ground floor."

One commenter suggested reporting the drama to management repeatedly until she either stops or is removed from the situation.

The management has liability. If they don't seem to take this seriously, inform them.

Some individuals believe they are entitled to everything and consider others' actions as favors, even though they don't recognize them as such.

"She needs to learn one way or another that people are not there to serve her purposes and comfort."

You acted appropriately and courteously before taking action. You assisted her even when she was impolite and a hassle. You discussed the issue with her and informed her that you wouldn't be accommodating her again.

She decided to knock on his door multiple times during the evening, despite not answering, and yet he is the one being blamed.

Woman walking dog and Reddit screen
Most Reddit users sympathized with the writer of the story, saying the woman who kept getting herself locked out of the building while walking her dog and then bothering others for help was wrong in the situation. (iStock; Getty Images)

I feel the consequences are a bit harsh, but that's on her. She was getting used to using me for her convenience only.

"People are not there to serve or comfort her, and she must understand that help in times of need is different from exploitation."

Others also had no patience for the woman's behavior.

""Letting her in despite her repeated disturbances hasn't made it clear to her that she's an adult, and her behavior has put everyone's property and security at risk," one person commented."
