A bear escaped from its enclosure in Florida, allowing a kangaroo to roam freely.
Sheriff Mike Chitwood stated that Pierson town is bustling tonight.
A kangaroo was reported lost in a small town in Florida, and residents were advised to be on the lookout.
"Sheriff Mike Chitwood wrote on X on October 17, 'Just when you think you've seen it all, the Town of Pierson is hopping tonight.'"
A screenshot of a kangaroo hopping along a road in Pierson, Florida, was shared by Chitwood on the "Pierson Community Page" on Facebook. Pierson is situated in Volusia County, north of Orlando.
Another post from Chitwood reported that the kangaroo escaped due to a bear entering its enclosure and it has not been recovered yet.
Chitwood wrote that they have been in touch with the owner and are monitoring it closely.
An Australian marsupial was seen hopping around in Pierson, leaving a woman who resides there "stunned."
The woman explained to Fox 35 that they reside in the woods and encounter bears and deer, but not kangaroos, as they are supposed to be found at the zoo.
She added, "It's pretty cool that someone out here has an exotic animal, don't you think?"
With the proper permit, it is legal to keep a kangaroo as a private pet in Florida, according to the website of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office has been contacted by Planet Chronicle Digital for information regarding the well-being of the kangaroo.
If you see a kangaroo, contact the Florida Wildlife Conservation Commission's Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-FWCC (888-404-3922) or text 847411 (Tip411) with the keyword "FWC" and the location details.
In recent months, a rogue kangaroo has been making headlines.
In May, a call about two loose kangaroos in Lufkin, Texas left police officers baffled.
The man in the call, which was posted on Facebook, stated, "I don't know who to call for animal control as I couldn't find an open number."
"On Fuller Springs Drive, a kangaroo appeared on the road and crossed right in front of me," he stated.
The man was questioned by the perplexed dispatcher about whether the kangaroo appeared to fit in the location.
On the call, laughter can be heard as the man's wife initially thought the kangaroo was a dog.
The Texas kangaroos were eventually captured and safely returned to their enclosure.
In July, a German kangaroo, which had been on the run for six months, was safely captured.
