In Missouri, a bald eagle was shot and caretakers are working to treat its injuries.

A seven-pound bird was brought into the World Bird Sanctuary in Valley Park, Missouri, by a volunteer, as reported by The Associated Press.

The male bird's severely damaged beak, which could be life-threatening, was repaired by the bird sanctuary staff.

The World Bird Sanctuary's executive director, Roger Holloway, informed Planet Chronicle Digital via email that the eagle is in good health and has gained weight and strength.

"If the growth bed for bird beaks is severely damaged, there will be insufficient regrowth."

This year, at the sanctuary in Valley Park, Missouri, the 390th injured bird has been treated, he stated.

The eagle sustained damage to its left wing and was poisoned by lead.

A recent study by USGS and collaborators found that 50% of 448 birds from across the U.S. had evidence of chronic lead poisoning, according to Science.org.

Eagles and vultures worldwide are exposed to lead, according to Todd Katzner, a USGS wildlife biologist based in Boise, Idaho, who shared this information with Planet Chronicle Digital earlier this month.

On every continent, people hunt animals and leave bullets behind, which also affects avian scavengers that eat dead animals and may have remnants of ammunition embedded in their bodies.

In February 2023, officials in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, encountered a tragic incident involving the death of a bald eagle from lead poisoning.

In January, a bald eagle was relocated to Humane Indiana Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center due to lead poisoning discovered at Potato Creek State Park.

"And birds don't usually survive shots to the head."

The surgery and treatment value has surpassed $10,000.
