A 1776 rare coin discovered in a toffee tin will be sold at auction.
In 1776, the Continental dollar was minted.
A valuable item was discovered in a toffee tin.
An old coin was discovered by Wotton Auction Rooms, an auction house in Gloucestershire, England, during an evaluation of items from a private vendor.
According to SWNS, Joseph Trinder, the auctioneer, stated that the coin is a continental dollar with a diameter of 38 mm and is made of pewter, and was minted in 1776.
Trinder stated that this coin is a significant discovery in his career and something that every auctioneer hopes to find.
According to SWNS, only 100 of the limited edition coins, which were produced in a run of 6,000, remain in circulation today.
The coin, with its rarity in mind, was sent to the Numismatic Guaranty Company in Sarasota, Florida for authentication and was confirmed to be authentic.
A committee of specialists examined the item, and it underwent X-rays and other scientific tests. We were thrilled to receive a notification recently stating that it is authentic, as Trinder shared with SWNS.
The discovery of a coin dating back to America's independence in the U.K. is unique.
The auction house has not verified any additional instances of the coin discovered in the U.K., as stated by Trinder.
A bin of knickknacks, including jewelry, carved stone, and fossils, contained the coin, according to SWNS.
He assured us that we thoroughly examined everything and reached the bottom of it.
At the bottom of the tin of treasures, we found an amazing continental dollar coin among some gold coins and other valuable items.
On Oct. 3, the coin will be available for purchase at Wotton Auction Rooms.
