Over 1,000 years ago, Vikings buried invaluable treasure that was recently uncovered by archaeologists.

On Wednesday, the University of Stavanger's Museum of Archaeology made an announcement about the discovery of artifacts in Årdal, Hjelmeland, a location in Western Norway.

A local farmer planned to build a road on his property, and the excavation was conducted there. According to an English translation of the press release, the treasure was found approximately 7 inches deep in the soil.

Four silver arm rings, each with distinct embellishments, were discovered under what would have been a small house. Archaeologists believe the rings were intentionally buried.

"According to field archaeologist Ola Tengesdal Lygre, who spoke in a press release, at first, there were rumors of twisted copper wires commonly found in agricultural soil. However, upon closer inspection, she discovered several silver wires adjacent to each other that were not made of copper, indicating an exciting discovery."

Experts believe that the discovery of soapstone pots, rivets, knife blades, and other artifacts indicates the existence of a "large and powerful" Viking farm on the land.

""Rarely do we find such objects in their original context as they were laid, as project manager Volker Demuth stated in the press release," he said."

"The Viking era can be fully understood through the insights gained from the unchanged silver tax."

Demuth stated that it was the "most significant discovery" he had encountered in his career.

Demuth stated that if individuals residing on the farm were forced to flee from an attack, it would be natural to conceal valuables before escaping to the mountains. Additionally, he suggested that one might not expect a treasure to be hidden in an unconventional location.

Once soil samples and x-rays of the artifacts are taken, the museum director, Ole Madsen, stated that the relics will be displayed.

Madsen stated that this discovery provides unique knowledge about the Viking era, which is one of the most important eras in Norway.
