The world's reaction to the second Trump assassination attempt is muted, with some condemning political violence.
Despite some world leaders reacting to the latest assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, the response from other nation leaders has been slow to nonexistent, nine weeks after the first attempt on the former president's life.
As of Monday morning, leaders from top U.S. allied nations, including Australia, Canada, Italy, Germany, and France, had not publicly condemned the second assassination attempt.
On Sunday, while the former president played golf at his club in West Palm Beach, Florida, a 58-year-old man named Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested for an alleged assault. The details of the incident and the motive of the assailant are not yet known.
While some world leaders gave a subdued reaction, others spoke out against the political violence.
According to multiple British news outlets, he stated that it is crucial for everyone to be extremely clear that violence has no role whatsoever in any political procedure.
Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, expressed his reaction on social media, stating that he and his wife were "shocked" by the second attempt and were "relieved to hear that it too failed."
"We should not depend on chance," he stated. "We wish Donald and Melania well and hope that all precautions will be taken to prevent any deadly attacks on a presidential candidate from occurring."
Viktor Orbán, the Hungarian Prime Minister, also expressed his views on X, which has been a subject of discussion in the U.S. between Trump and Harris.
"President Trump's life is in danger until his victory, as Orbán stated. We are praying for you, Mr. President,"
The president has consistently asserted that he could put an end to the war prior to assuming office in January 2025 if he wins re-election this autumn, but he has not disclosed how he would accomplish this or if he supports a Ukrainian victory over Russia.
The FBI has not disclosed Routh's motive, but media outlets, both domestic and international, have speculated that he supported Ukraine, with some reports suggesting he aided in recruiting for Kyiv's war effort through the International Legion Defense of Ukraine.
Ukrainian officials refuted claims that Routh was directly involved in the war in Ukraine through fighting or recruitment efforts, stating that rumors in certain media are not true. Planet Chronicle Digital could not verify these claims.
Ryan Routh, an American citizen, has no affiliation with the International Legion of Territorial Defense of Ukraine, a military unit comprised of foreign volunteers fighting in the Ukrainian Ground Forces, according to a post on Instagram on Monday.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy did not mention the attacker but expressed joy that Trump was safe.
"The suspect in the assassination attempt was promptly captured, as stated in a post on X. Our principle is that the rule of law must be upheld, and political violence has no place anywhere in the world. We hope that everyone stays safe."
Vladimir Putin has not publicly commented on the assassination attempt, but Dmitry Peskov linked it to the assailant's support for Ukraine.
According to Reuters, Peskov stated that the U.S. intelligence services should be thinking, not us, about the Sunday events. He added that playing with fire always has consequences.
Andriy Kovalenko, head of Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation, stated that the Kremlin was employing another assassination attempt on Trump through the information sphere.
