A reminder from the Colorado Springs Fire Department to have functioning smoke alarms in homes is beneficial.
A fire in Colorado Springs has left a family homeless after their dog accidentally started it on June 26.
The Colorado Springs Fire Department posted on Facebook on July 2nd that at 4:43 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26th, they were dispatched to a possible structure fire at a home.
Our call takers received reports from homeowners that they had experienced a stove fire in their homes, which was extinguished by one of the homeowners.
The fire department arrived four minutes later, but there was no visible fire or smoke, only evidence of a fire.
The fire department stated that the male homeowner successfully put out the fire before the crews arrived, but was later taken to a hospital due to smoke inhalation. No other individuals or animals were harmed in the fire.
The family dog was discovered as the unusual source of the fire when the fire department examined the security footage.
They stated that their pup accidentally turned on the oven, which had boxes on top of it, because it became curious.

The fire department was informed by the homeowners that their Apple HomePod sounded an alarm for "High Heat," allowing them to put out the fire before it spread beyond the kitchen.
The Colorado Springs Fire Department advised that it's crucial to have functioning smoke alarms in every sleeping area, on every floor, and outside the home, to keep combustibles away from the stovetop/oven, and to know two escape routes in case of a fire.
A GoFundMe has been launched to aid homeowners in Colorado Springs while they await insurance processing of their claims, according to local media reports.
The GoFundMe, initiated by a woman claiming to be the female homeowner's mother, states that their clothing and belongings in their home were destroyed due to smoke damage. Planet Chronicle Digital contacted the owner of the GoFundMe for more information and comment.
"Their upstairs is now unlivable due to being out of their home, and their dogs and other animals are displaced. They need help with finances," she said.
The Colorado Springs Fire Department, Apple, and SimpliSafe were contacted by Planet Chronicle Digital for additional comment.
