1. Use silk pillowcases
Experts suggest that using silk pillowcases instead of cotton ones can improve sleep quality in multiple ways.
Skydan stated in an email message that over time, this habit can keep the skin looking young and the hair lustrous and silky.
The silk pillowcase reduces skin creases, hair tangling, and the emergence of facial rashes after sleep due to its hypoallergenic features, she stated.
A dermatologist in West Nyack, New York, stated that while silk pillowcases may potentially benefit the skin, further research is necessary to confirm this effect.
No evidence supports the claim that using a silk pillowcase reduces acne breakouts, slows down the formation of facial wrinkles, or prevents split ends or chemical exposure, she stated in an email.
"Making such a purchase won't guarantee healthier skin or hair."
2. Try petroleum jelly before applying perfume
To prolong the life of perfume or cologne, Skydan recommended applying petroleum jelly to the skin before use.
She instructed me to apply a small amount of petroleum jelly behind my ears, wrists, and neck before spritzing perfume over them.
"Your perfume will persist in the morning and evening."
Be cautious when washing underarms and feet with benzoyl peroxide.
Benzoyl peroxide should be used to wash the underarms and feet to reduce surface bacteria and body odor, as suggested by Frey.
Although she advised users to exercise caution when using the product, it can sometimes cause irritation and redness and remove color from clothes.
To minimize side effects, Skydan advised examining the usage guidelines on the benzoyl peroxide product packaging.
A mild cleanser is a suitable substitute for those who cannot tolerate the product, according to Frey.
4. Use antiperspirant wipes for long-lasting protection
Skydan suggested using antiperspirant wipes to maintain dryness for individuals who sweat excessively.
Dove claims that antiperspirant shields against both sweat and odor, in contrast to deodorant which merely suppresses odor.
Skydan advised using antiperspirant wipes at night once a week to remain dry for up to seven days.
Antiperspirant wipes should be in the arsenal of heavy sweaters.
5. Know when to exfoliate your skin
Dermatologists and skin experts frequently recommend exfoliating the skin.
Skydan informed Planet Chronicle Digital that regular exfoliation maintains healthy, smooth, and fresh skin by eliminating dead skin cells and promoting new cell growth.
Frey advises caution when exfoliating, as it can be challenging to determine the benefits, and its primary purpose is to remove dead cells, dirt, and oil.
Accurately measuring cell turnover is a challenging, time-consuming, and costly task, she stated.
"If you have healthy skin, forget the exfoliants and scrubs."
