New members are prohibited from joining the gym in January due to the owner's unconventional reasons.
In January, a large number of eager beavers arrive, but the owner emphasizes that the 'first priority is existing members'.
Made a New Year's resolution to get fit and healthy again?
One gym owner says good luck with that because his venue has no room for new members in January.
Clayton Leah, the 31-year-old gym owner of Ascendancy Fitness, has been refusing new members despite the peak season, as he revealed in a phone interview with Planet Chronicle Digital on January 4th, 2023. He stated that they stopped signing up new members on New Year's Eve.
He has a specific reason for his unusual stance, he said.
He informed Planet Chronicle Digital that the purpose of the gym is to safeguard existing members and experienced fitness enthusiasts from an influx of newcomers.
Frequently, newcomers in January who are enthusiastic about maintaining a New Year's resolution eventually drop off as their resolve weakens.
Leah stated that he did not want to irritate our long-standing members.
On Saturday, he told Planet Chronicle Digital that he didn't want to focus more on the negative than the positive, as the response to his gym's news had been overwhelmingly positive.
""We prioritize our membership experience and see why we've done it, as the majority of people appreciate it," he stated."
He stated that it has been the opposite of a "not smart" business move for his gym.
He stated that our members are highly appreciative of what we're doing, with their satisfaction being our top priority.
"We have some inquiries about joining, but it's not because we're taking something away from people. People want it more when something is taken away, but that's not the reason for our actions."
"The only negative response people have is a case of, ‘I was going to join, but now I can’t.'"
He also told news agency SWNS that he wanted to break the mold.
He stated that his goal is to "adopt an unusual strategy while safeguarding our current members – this is the utmost priority for us."
In England, the gym is situated in Warrington, Cheshire, which is approximately equidistant from Liverpool and Manchester.
One-time day passes are available at his gym for those who want to work out there, in addition to the approximately 650 current members.
Leah expressed the hope that his gym's decision would motivate individuals to consistently join the gym throughout the year, rather than just during January, when people are drawn to the gym due to New Year's resolutions.
The fitness industry, he stated, is "incredible" and our goal is to assist individuals in achieving their fitness and health objectives.
Those hoping to join the gym were the only ones who had expressed negative reactions to the blocked memberships.
People have only one negative response, which is "I was going to join but now I can't."
He remarked, "If you had joined earlier, you would have benefited more," he stated to SWNS.
January has seen multiple instances of gyms or fitness clubs prohibiting new members.
On January 1, 2023, Equinox, a luxury fitness club, stopped accepting new members, as previously reported by Planet Chronicle Digital.
The "We Don't Speak January" campaign aimed to discourage short-term New Year's resolutions and promote long-term commitment.

As previously reported by Planet Chronicle Digital, certified personal trainer and strength coach Melissa Kendter of Pennsylvania emphasized that every trainer's primary focus should be guiding others towards a healthier lifestyle and achieving long-term success through sustainable habits.
Leah of Ascendancy Fitness stated that his gym is likely to reopen to new memberships in February, but a specific date has not been confirmed yet.
He informed Planet Chronicle Digital that our plan was to steer clear of the January surge.
