Family faces tough choice after teen's sudden death from peanut allergy.
In the aftermath of tragedy, the teen's parents find solace in organ donation: "God grants us hope."
The family in Wisconsin is grieving the death of their teenage daughter due to an allergic reaction, but they have found solace in the lives her donated organs have saved.
Since she was a toddler, Hannah Glass, now 19 and a freshman at Maranatha Baptist University, has lived with a severe peanut allergy.
She suffered irreversible brain damage and death after unknowingly consuming a brownie made from peanut flour and experiencing an allergic reaction.
David and Janean Glass, the parents of a teen who tragically passed away, appeared on Planet Chronicle Digital to discuss their loss and offer a warning to other families.
When Hannah Glass was 3 years old, her family discovered her allergy to peanuts after she ate a peanut butter cookie and experienced an adverse reaction.
David Glass stated that we knew we had a serious allergy when it occurred.
She always took precautions to avoid peanut butter and carried an EpiPen throughout her life.
Hannah Glass was given a brownie by a college friend, which she consumed without suspicion. However, after taking the first bite, she realized something was amiss. Despite her past experiences with peanut flour causing her throat to close and breaking out in a rash, this time she immediately threw up and experienced a rash.
Her parents arrived at her dorm, and although she had taken allergy medicine and appeared to be improving, things took a turn.
David Glass exclaimed, "I can't breathe. I'm hurting everywhere," suddenly.
An hour after the reaction started, the Glass daughter passed out and her parents dialed 911.
"From that moment on, everything that happened became our burden, heartache, and grief," David Glass stated.
Despite their efforts to resuscitate the teenager, paramedics failed to realize that her right lung had collapsed, resulting in insufficient oxygen supply to the brain.
"If we could help another family avoid feeling this level of pain, we knew we had to do it."
"Unfortunately, it was too much time with not enough oxygen, resulting in significant brain damage, as David Glass stated."
"Despite our hopes, prayers, doctors' efforts, and shared tears, the events of that night remained unalterable."
Lives saved through tragedy
The Glasses, confronted with Hannah's death, considered donating their healthy daughter's organs.
David Glass stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that if there was a chance to prevent another family from experiencing the same level of agony, he knew it was his duty to act.
"Saving other people's lives through the use of her body would be selfish, but we were willing to make that sacrifice, despite the immense pain it caused."
Four lives were saved through the donation of organs following Hannah's death.
David Glass stated that in addition to the organ donation process, we agreed that Hannah's tissues could be utilized in various ways to benefit others, some of which we are unaware of.
‘Humbling’ experience
On Nov. 17, the hospital hosted an "honor walk" for the deceased teen, where friends, family, and community members gathered to pay their respects as she was transported through the hospital with her parents and siblings.
Nearly 300 people showed up for the procession.
"She was just amazing and a tremendous blessing, and I am so proud to be able to call her my daughter."
"Janeane Glass told Planet Chronicle Digital that she found it extremely humbling. Despite the difficulty she faced in looking at people, the outpouring of love and support was incredible."
The teen's favorite hymns and Christmas songs were sung by everyone after the gathering.
"Throughout the hospital, the testimony of people's love for us and God's love for us was heard," Janeane Glass stated.
The Glasses shared their deep love and pride for their daughter.
Her mother told Planet Chronicle Digital that Hannah was highly committed and focused on her future.
"From a young age, she was determined to attend college and lead an independent life."
Hannah Glass had accumulated enough funds to pay for her entire college education. She was pursuing a degree in English education and aimed to become a teacher.
Her biggest passion, however, was helping others, her parents said.
Janeane Glass stated that one of the primary concerns expressed by the students on campus was the extent of her care for them.
"My daughter is an amazing and tremendous blessing, and I am proud to call her mine. She has a heart to serve others and her Lord."
The family's faith in God has given us hope, as shared by David Glass.
"The hope is that life is more than just existing, that we possess a soul and the chance to eternally live with God."
‘Take it seriously’
"Take it seriously" is the message offered by the Glasses to families with food allergies.
""Be prepared and have the EpiPen tested," David Glass advised."
Be mindful of food ingredients, especially when they are unlabeled.
David Glass stated that the world is terrifying because what many people consume as a treat or a healthy snack could be deadly to the person sitting beside them.

"While it's impossible to live in constant fear, it's crucial for individuals or parents to remain vigilant about the possibility of encountering an allergy, which could have severe consequences."
