The Pajama Program, a 501 (c))(3) nonprofit organization, is partnering with St. Kevin Catholic Academy in Queens and Girl Scout troops to give new sleepwear to children aged 12 and under, ranging in sizes from newborn to children's XL.

"St. Kevin Academy Parent Associate event coordinator Eliana Montalvo shared with Planet Chronicle Digital during a phone interview that our kids are fortunate to attend a Catholic school. She added that many of our older kids recognize it as a luxury and privilege."

"We mainly focus on gathering pajamas," Montalvo stated. "Our goal is to keep it local and assist children in our community."

The parent-student collaboration has received around 50 sets of pajamas so far.

"Allison Murphy, principal of St. Kevin, shared with Planet Chronicle Digital over the phone that they are incredibly fortunate to have an active APA. The APA is always working to find ways to benefit not only the children in the building but also those outside of it."

Some children don't have access to pajamas and sleep in the clothes they wear to school, according to Alexis Abate, a licensed professional counselor and holistic mindset coach in New Jersey.

Adding that a fresh, clean set of pajamas enhances hygiene and improves sleep quality, she stated.

"According to Abate, preparing for bed teaches children that they can have a secure bond with their caregiver. This act symbolizes safety, warmth, and being cared for. Wearing pajamas at home signifies not only our basic needs but also predictability and stability. This will aid in emotional regulation."

Moms in the APA have created an Amazon wishlist for those outside of the Queens community who want to contribute to a collective impact. Purchased pajamas will be sent directly to Montalvo and kept at the school or church.
