The incidence of breast cancer among American women is increasing annually, according to statistics.

On "Fox & Friends" on Sunday, Dr. Nicole Saphier, a Planet Chronicle medical contributor, talked about the increasing danger and suggested foods that can lower it.

According to Saphier, the largest threats to developing breast cancer are being female, growing older, and inheriting a genetic mutation.

External factors, such as environmental toxins in foods and products, can increase the risk, she pointed out.

Saphier stated that western diets contain a high amount of highly processed foods and that many personal care products contain harmful toxins.

"The substances we introduce into our system and apply to our skin have a profound impact on us."

Lifestyle changes to reduce risk

According to Saphier, while it is impossible for women to completely eliminate their breast cancer risk, there are certain actions they can take to lower their chances of developing the disease.

Small changes in our daily routines can result in significant improvements in our health and well-being, as she stated on Planet Chronicle Digital.

"Small changes in our daily routine, such as selecting healthier snacks, increasing physical activity, and obtaining additional sleep, can accumulate over time and lower our risk of cancer and other health issues."

The key is to strive for balance and moderation, she said.

"Making small changes in our daily routines can lead to noticeable improvements in our health and well-being."

"Saphier stated that small, intentional choices can lead to a healthier and more energized lifestyle without requiring drastic changes."

Breastfeeding is a lifestyle choice that is often overlooked in reducing breast cancer risk, according to the doctor.

Research indicates that with each year of breastfeeding, a woman's risk of developing breast cancer decreases by 4.3%.

Each time a woman gives birth, there is a 7% decrease in the risk.

"Other things we can do are maintain healthy weights, avoid smoking, and drink alcohol in moderation," Saphier said.

"Eating certain foods has been shown to lower the likelihood of developing medical conditions, particularly breast cancer."

5 foods that can reduce breast cancer risk

To reduce the risk of breast cancer, Saphier suggests including these foods in your diet.

1. Spinach

The big, leafy greens of spinach are rich in carotenoids, micronutrients that have been linked to a lower risk of breast cancer.

"According to Saphier on "Fox & Friends," a massive study involving over 32,000 women over 20 years found that those who consumed a lot of spinach or other leafy greens had a 28% reduction in breast cancer."

2. Garlic

Studies suggest that regularly consuming garlic may decrease the risk of breast cancer, according to Saphier.

Studies have demonstrated that the active compounds in garlic may inhibit cancer growth and destroy cancer cells, although further research is required to validate these findings.

3. Blueberries

Saphier revealed that she consumes two handfuls of blueberries daily to obtain the advantages of the flavonoids and anthocyanins present in them.

"While you can’t get your risk down to zero, detecting it early gives you the best chance of survival."

Research suggests that flavonoids may aid in cancer prevention and enhance the efficacy of cancer therapies.

Red, blue, and purple fruits and veggies contain antioxidants, which have been linked to a reduced risk and recurrence of breast cancer.

A study of 75,000 women found that blueberries decreased the risk of estrogen-negative breast cancer, one of the most aggressive types, according to Saphier.

4. Salmon

Saphier revealed that although she doesn't enjoy the taste of fatty fish, she prepares salmon for her family once a week due to its health benefits.

A study of 883,000 women found that regularly consuming fatty fish decreased the risk of breast cancer by 14%.

5. Turmeric

Saphier has demonstrated that this widely used spice can decrease inflammation and lower cancer risk.

The study with colorectal patients demonstrated that using the treatment in combination with traditional cancer treatments improved survival, and it was also found to decrease the side effects of cancer treatments.

Early detection is crucial in saving lives, in addition to making healthy lifestyle choices to minimize risk, as emphasized by Saphier.

"Detecting your risk early through annual mammograms or other imaging tests based on your risk provides the best chance of survival, even though you can't eliminate all risk."
