A daughter and mother are discussing the reasons behind the belief that they are sisters.

Kelly Cantu, a 40-year-old California native, and her 20-year-old daughter Madison, often claim that they are mistaken for being sisters.

Jam Press reported that Kelly Cantu was 20 years old when she had her daughter and was thrilled to have her own "mini me."

That wasn't just wishful thinking, the outlet noted.

As the daughter grew, the similarities between the two started to show.

As Madison turned 13 and Kelly was 33, people began to question if they were sisters.

Kelly Cantu, a content creator, revealed to What's the Jam that she was in high school when it all began.

She often got mistaken for her sister or another student when I was picking her up, she stated.

"We both found it very funny."

When my friends and classmates first met my mom, they would often ask if she was my sister. Additionally, their parents would also ask the same question.

Kelly Cantu said she was just 20 years old when she had her daughter, Madison Cantu — and was excited to have her very own "mini me," as Jam Press reported. Mother and daughter are shown in both pictures here. (Jam Press)

Since then, the duo has stated that it continues to occur, both in public and online.

"When I call my daughter 'Baby Girl' and someone discovers I'm her mother, people often assume we are sisters," said Kelly Cantu.

The mother said it does become embarrassing at times.

""Now that I'm older, I sometimes feel embarrassed when people ask about my age when I had Madison," she admitted."

Although she is young, Cantu expressed her happiness to hear it occasionally.

When people discover that she is my parent rather than my sister, they are always taken aback.

They often remark on how youthful she looks.

She added, 'I feel honored because she's such a beautiful woman. Everyone says it and I know it, too. I hope I look just as good when I'm 40!'

"I think it’s funny, and I hope that her good genetics will rub off on me," the younger Cantu said. "When people find out she’s my parent and not my sister, they’re always shocked." (Jam Press)

The mother-daughter duo often go out in matching colors, they said.

Kelly Cantu, currently residing in England, stated, "I adore coordinating outfits. Recently, I've been attempting to match or wear complementary colors. In fact, I just purchased matching Christmas sweaters and pajamas for us."

She mentioned that she dyed her hair dark to resemble Madison.

The pair said they take the similarities in stride.

"When someone says we look alike, it means a lot to me because my daughter is the most beautiful person in the world to me," said Kelly Cantu.

Jam Press reported that even their family and friends believe the two are "almost the same."

Kelly Cantu stated, "My mother frequently expresses how much we resemble each other in appearance and behavior. I believe this is even more evident now, as my daughter and I have become inseparable and share many similarities."

The mother remarked that it is "odd" how close her children are.

Both women stated that they are not concerned about that because they consider each other their best friends.
