The UK temporarily halts numerous weapons deals with Israel.
The UK is temporarily halting 30 out of 350 export licenses for weapons to Israel.
The UK is temporarily halting numerous weapons shipments to Israel due to fears that the weapons may be used to violate international law following the recent Hamas attack on Israeli hostages.
On Monday, David Lammy, the British Foreign Secretary, informed lawmakers that a decision regarding about 30 of 350 export licenses for military equipment, including parts for aircraft and drones and ground targeting items, was made.
The British government considers the equipment as being intended for use in the ongoing conflict in Gaza and poses a significant threat to the international humanitarian law.
Lammy clarified that the suspension was not a verdict of innocence or guilt regarding Israel's compliance with international law and was not an arms embargo.
Yoav Gallant, the Israeli Defense Minister, expressed his disappointment in a statement regarding the British government's decision to impose "sanctions" on the export licenses.
"This comes at a time when we are fighting a war on 7 different fronts, which was launched by a terrorist organization without provocation. We are also mourning the execution of 6 hostages in cold blood by Hamas in Gaza, and working to bring 101 hostages home."
"Our troops and security agencies work with immense courage, professionalism, and moral values, and we remain committed to defending the State of Israel and her people."
The U.K.'s decision, as stated by Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz, "sends a very problematic message" to the Iranian-backed Hamas terrorist group.
Katz stated that Israel is a law-abiding state that operates in accordance with international law and has an independent and respected judicial system. He emphasized that friendly countries, such as the UK, should recognize this all year-round, especially just days after Hamas terrorists executed six Israeli hostages, during intense negotiations for the release of the hostages and for a ceasefire, and in light of the recent threats by the Iranian regime to attack the State of Israel.
The U.K.'s foreign minister expressed hope that the "strong bond" between Israel and the U.K. will persist in the future.
Biden stated that Netanyahu is not doing enough to secure a hostage deal with Hamas terrorists.
The Situation Room hosted a hostage deal negotiating team convened by Biden and Vice President Harris after the murder of 23-year-old Israeli-American Hersh Goldberg-Polin and five other hostages by Hamas on Saturday.
