U.S. troops stationed at an Iraqi air base were targeted with rockets in a reported attack amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
As Iran pledges to attack Israel, the attack occurs.
On Monday, it was reported that the Ain al-Asad air base in Iraq, where U.S. troops are stationed, was attacked with rockets, according to sources.
At least two Katyusha rockets were launched towards the base, as reported by Reuters, based on information from multiple security sources.
Though one security source stated that the rockets landed within the base, the sources did not verify if the attack resulted in any fatalities or injuries.
The assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran last week has led to tensions in the Middle East escalating amid the Israel-Hamas war, with the Iranian government vowing retribution against Israel.
Iran reported plans to launch attacks against Israel soon, while the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has not admitted responsibility for Haniyeh's death.
"Iranian General Hossein Salami stated that the result of their mistake will be seen by them, including the time, place, and manner in which they will receive their response, following the death of Haniyeh."
On Sunday, Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, stated that Antony Blinken, Secretary of State, had a conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani about the recent happenings in the region.
"The Secretary highlighted the significance of all parties taking measures to de-escalate regional tensions and promote stability."
"The Secretary confirmed our continued dedication to the U.S.-Iraq comprehensive relationship, aimed at fostering economic prospects and well-being for all Iraqis."
