A major counterterrorism operation is underway in a West Bank city by the Israeli military.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that this action is another step towards achieving our goal of enhancing security in Judea and Samaria.
On Tuesday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) initiated a comprehensive counterterrorism operation in Jenin, West Bank. The IDF, Israel Security Authority, and Israel Border Police jointly declared the operation without providing specifics. According to France 24, two individuals were reportedly killed in an Israeli strike that was part of the operation, as stated by the Palestinian Health Ministry.
According to a report by the Times of Israel, an Israeli military source claimed that the operation commenced with drone attacks and is predicted to continue for several days. The targets were reportedly terror infrastructure utilized by terror groups operating in Jenin.
""Another step towards our goal of strengthening security in Judea and Samaria is to act methodically and resolutely against the Iranian axis wherever it sends its arms, including Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, Judea, and Samaria," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated."
The Palestinian Authority (PA) had been conducting a campaign to reassert control in Jenin and a nearby refugee camp prior to the IDF's operation, according to Reuters.
The PA has been conducting an ongoing operation against local terror factions backed by Iran in Jenin for the past month, resulting in violent clashes and further straining the relationship between the PA and local communities.
The Palestinian Authority is taking measures to stop Iran from funding militants to buy weapons, as they know Iran will continue to support Hamas and Islamic Jihad. This is a challenge they face. It is the right time to confront Iran, especially after the wars in Gaza and Lebanon, as the public mood is not welcoming any military confrontation with Israel after what happened. Mohammad Daraghmeh, Asharq News bureau chief in Ramallah, made this statement to Planet Chronicle Digital in December.
The release of three Israeli civilian hostages on Sunday marks a significant moment in the IDF's war against Hamas in Gaza. Emily Damari, Romi Goren, and Doron Steinbrecher were finally reunited with their families after spending 471 days in Hamas captivity.
The IDF Spokesperson's Unit declined to provide a comment on the request.
