Trump states that having a friendly relationship with Kim Jong Un is not negative.
Trump frequently claims his 2019 meeting with Kim Jong Un was a significant achievement of his presidency.
Recently, former President Donald Trump praised his relationship with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, describing it as a "good thing."
At a campaign rally in Pennsylvania this week, Trump commented on what some view as one of his administration's greatest achievements.
The former president stated to the crowd, "I had a good relationship with Kim Jong-un of North Korea. It was me who was the first to walk over from this country."
He continued, "We also examined his nuclear capabilities. They are quite substantial. You know, cooperation is beneficial. It's not detrimental."
In 2019, Kim Jong Un, the dictator of North Korea, was the first to meet with a sitting US President when Trump shook hands with him.
The sudden and unprecedented meeting between Trump and Kim Jong Un caught the U.S. public off guard due to their recent heated exchanges.
Since 2019, Trump has frequently mentioned his achievement of reaching out to the dictator as a point of pride, asserting that he would have normalized relations if he had been re-elected.
"The beginning of my second term was marked by a call from them, who wanted to meet. We would have had the situation sorted out shortly after that call."
Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, has criticized Trump for his meeting with Kim Jong Un, arguing that the former president was too lenient towards the dictator.
""I will always take decisive action to protect our forces and interests against Iran and its allies, and I will never compromise with tyrants like Kim Jong Un, who seek to exploit Trump's weaknesses. They know he is easily swayed by flattery and favors, and they count on him to turn a blind eye to their human rights abuses," she stated during her acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention."
Neither candidate has presented a comprehensive plan on how they would handle North Korea relations after the 2024 election.
