Trump reacts to Trudeau resignation: 'Many Canadians LOVE being the 51st State'
If Canada were to merge with the U.S., Trump states that there would be no tariffs.
Trump, the president-elect, on Monday repeated his proposal that Canada join the U.S. as its 51st state, following Trudeau's announcement of his resignation.
Canada is cherished by many people in the United States as the 51st State. However, the United States can no longer endure the significant trade deficits and subsidies that Canada requires to remain financially stable. Justin Trudeau recognized this and resigned, as Trump announced on Truth Social.
If Canada merged with the U.S., there would be no tariffs, taxes would decrease significantly, and they would be completely safe from the threat of Russian and Chinese ships that are constantly surrounding them. Together, they would be an even greater nation!
According to sources, when Trump and Trudeau met at Mar-a-Lago in late November, Trump discussed the merger idea with Trudeau in person.
In the same month, Trudeau visited Trump's Florida residence without prior notice after the president-elect threatened to impose broad tariffs on Canadian goods. Trump is now threatening 25% tariffs on both Canada and Mexico due to their failure to control the influx of illegal immigrants and drugs into the US from these countries.
Trump wrote on Truth Social that the fentanyl and drug crisis resulting from illegal immigration, fair trade deals that protect American workers, and the massive trade deficit the U.S. has with Canada were important topics discussed.
Earlier this morning, Trudeau declared that he would step down as both the prime minister of Canada and the leader of the Liberal Party.
"I plan to step down as party leader and Prime Minister after the party selects its next leader through a comprehensive national process," Trudeau announced in a Monday morning address. "Last night, I instructed the president of the Liberal Party to initiate the process. This nation requires a genuine election choice, and it has become evident to me that if I am preoccupied with internal strife, I cannot be the most suitable candidate in that election."
For nearly a decade, Trudeau has been leading Canada, but in recent months, his approval ratings have significantly decreased due to mounting frustration over issues such as the high cost of living and inflation.
The prime minister faced calls for resignation from at least seven Liberal MPs and opposition leaders after his finance minister, Chrystia Freeland, resigned in a scathing letter that criticized Trudeau's handling of economic policies and Trump's threats.
