Thousands mourn in hometown synagogue as lawmakers hold moment of silence for slain Omer Neutra.
Hamas was found responsible for the death of American-Israeli Omer Neutra.
Neutra, a 21-year-old tank platoon commander in the 7th Armored Brigade's 77th Battalion of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), was among the first to respond to the Hamas attack that resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 people and the initial abduction of more than 250 men, women, and children.
For 420 days, Omer's parents and brother Daniel have fought tirelessly with the support of hundreds of thousands of others to free their son from captivity. They endured daily struggles between deep sorrow and brief moments of hopefulness, transitioning from crushing anxiety to steely determination, as Rep. Tom Suozzi, D-N.Y., stated from the House floor.

Video of the assault on Omer's tank depicted the commander and three others, Shaked Dahan, Oz Daniel, and Nimrod Cohen, being forcibly removed from the military vehicle by Hamas militants and being held captive.
According to the IDF, intelligence now suggests that Omer, a descendant of Holocaust survivors, was also killed on Oct. 7, 2023, along with Daniel and Dahan, who were previously assessed to have been killed following the attack.
The fate of Cohen is unknown, and the Israeli military has not disclosed how they obtained the new information.
At the memorial service for Omer held in the Long Island synagogue on Tuesday, Omer's father Ronen stated that the news had left them "devastated and despondent."
"For over a year now, we've been keeping you alive, my beautiful boy," Orna said through tears, according to reports. "With the hope and love of so many, we kept going and going and going, speaking your name from every outlet, pushing any hint of despair, not stopping to breathe or to take in the deep pain of your absence."
"Now things are clear," she said to the 1,500 attendees at the service. "But not as we'd hoped."
Their son was described as loving, a good friend, and an athlete by Onra and Ronen, but they also emphasized his leadership skills and how his actions on Oct. 7, 2023 saved lives.
The IDF believes that Omer's body is still being held by Hamas, along with six other American hostages. Out of these six, only three are believed to be alive, including Edan Alexander, Sagui Dekel-Chen, and Keith Siegel.
Following the recovery of Itai Svirski's body on Wednesday, there are still 100 hostages held by Hamas in Gaza, who were taken during the attack on Kibbutz Be'eri on Oct. 7, 2023.
The IDF confirmed that he was "murdered in captivity by his captors and his body was held hostage in the Gaza Strip."
