The White House condemns the Hamas group for the release of a disturbing video featuring Edan Alexander, calling it a "cruel reminder" of the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
In the terrorist group's propaganda video, the American-Israeli man looked sick and anxious.
The video of Edan Alexander being held hostage by Hamas was condemned by the White House as a "cruel demonstration of Hamas's terror."
The footage of Alexander, a 20-year-old dual American-Israeli citizen, shows him covering his face and crying after being abducted by Hamas terrorists during the Oct. 7 attacks while serving in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
Alexander looked emaciated and sick in the video. The captive stated that he had been held captive for over 420 days and was forced to convey messages to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President-elect Trump.
The NSC spokesman, Sean Savett, stated on Saturday that the White House is aware of the footage and is in contact with Alexander's family.
"The release of the hostage video featuring American-Israeli citizen Edan Alexander serves as a stark reminder of Hamas's ongoing terror against citizens of various countries, including our own," he stated.
"If Hamas released the hostages, the war in Gaza would stop and the suffering of Gazans would end immediately, as it should have months ago. However, Hamas has refused to do so, but as the President said last week, we have a critical opportunity to conclude the deal to release the hostages, stop the war, and surge humanitarian assistance into Gaza."
Savett assured that President Biden would remain committed to working tirelessly to free the hostages in Gaza.
The footage was released after the IDF and Hezbollah reached a 60-day cease-fire agreement in Lebanon. Biden acknowledged Hamas' refusal to release its hostages while making the announcement on Tuesday.
"The president stated from the White House's Rose Garden that too many civilians in Gaza have endured too much suffering, and Hamas has refused to negotiate a ceasefire and hostage deal for months."
Last month, Yael and Adi Alexander, Alexander's parents, spoke on "Fox & Friends" about their son. During the interview, the New Jersey residents shared details of their meeting with President-elect Trump.
"Yael revealed to Trump that Edan was a Jersey boy, as she informed the president that people rescued in mid-November saw Edan in the tunnels and shared that he was an American citizen."
She said, "Edan tried to reassure everyone on October 7th, saying, 'You're all civilians. You'll be out soon, very fast. Don't worry.' His strength gave us comfort."
