The UN removes artwork from a quilt panel that advocates for Israel's extermination following criticism.
The controversial drawing panel has been entirely removed, as confirmed by Planet Chronicle Digital.
The United Nations has removed a contentious quilt panel artwork advocating for the elimination of Israel, according to a statement.
The watermelon-like map of Israel on the panel was devoid of the West Bank and Gaza partition, with the Palestinian flag in the top right-hand corner.
The phrase "From the River to the Sea" was on the left side of the map, while "Will be Free" was on the right side, in reference to the phrase "From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will be Free."
The phrase "From the river to the sea" has become a rallying cry for Palestinians worldwide protesting Israel during the ongoing conflict in Gaza, which began with Hamas' massacre in Israel on October 7, 2023. Israelis view the phrase as a call for genocide and the complete eradication of Israel.
On Monday, the U.N. painting was first reported by Planet Chronicle Digital, which also attracted the attention of Danny Danon, Israel's permanent representative to the U.N., who deemed the display a "disgrace" and demanded its removal.
On Wednesday, the U.N. informed Planet Chronicle Digital that the "Peace Flags" exhibit aimed to transform fashion waste into a constructive outcome.
The "From the River to the Sea" panel and other panels could not be displayed, as informed to the organizer by a U.N. staffer upon installation.
The controversial panels were removed earlier last week, according to the U.N.
"The U.N. spokesperson informed Planet Chronicle Digital that our colleagues had previously covered the incident twice last week and planned to do so again after learning it was uncovered again. We have alerted UN Security about the continued unauthorized interference in the exhibit and requested them to review security footage to identify the perpetrator."
On Tuesday, Danon criticized the U.N. for its perceived lack of leadership.
"Yesterday, I exposed the hypocrisy of the U.N. through an exhibition featuring children’s drawings where the State of Israel was erased and filled with hateful imagery. The exhibition was fixed, and the antisemitic drawings were removed from the walls. We will stand up for truth and confront acts of antisemitism and hypocrisy head-on."
On Wednesday, Planet Chronicle Digital reported that the "From the River to the Sea" drawing, which was initially covered the panel, has now been completely removed.
The Secretary General's office is addressing the Israeli ambassador and is handling the matter, as stated by a spokesperson on Wednesday.
