The UN ambassador from Israel criticizes the UN, claiming that the UNRWA agency in Gaza is now controlled by Hamas terrorists.
A UN expert has accused UNRWA of being deeply involved with the Hamas terrorist group.
In a scathing indictment, Israel's ambassador to the world body, Danny Danon, accused the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) of being run by Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip.
Danon questioned the U.N.'s continued inaction on the issue of Hamas terrorists taking over UNRWA, after last week's Israeli air strike on the UNRWA al-Jaouni school in a Gaza refugee camp. He pointed out that the nine terrorists killed in the IDF strike were responsible for the barbaric massacre on October 7, and that their names were among those of Hamas terrorists who were at the school compound disguised as 'local UNRWA employees'.
According to the IDF, the school, which was not operational, was being used as a Hamas command and control center.
Danon publicly identified Hamas terrorists linked to UNRWA on his social media post, stating that UNRWA-Gaza is a terrorist organization responsible for the October 7 massacre and the abduction and murder of innocent Israeli civilians. He urged the international community to shut down UNRWA.
Nine UNRWA employees were let go due to suspected ties to Hamas's killing of over 1,100 people in southern Israel on October 7th, as reported by Planet Chronicle Digital last month.
According to Juliette Touma, a UNRWA spokesperson, the Israeli authorities have not requested the list of staff killed in yesterday's attack on the UNRWA school. Touma stated that the names on today's Israeli Army statement have not been flagged to UNRWA before in previous occasions.
"We always learn about serious allegations through the media after the event." Since Israel's attack on Hamas in response to the Oct. 7 massacre in southern Israel, schools in Gaza have not been in session.
The IDF spokesman stated that the UNRWA spokeswoman's comment was a diversion from the important issue of terrorists working for the organization and using UNRWA as a cover.
U.N. Watch's executive director, Hillel Neuer, spoke to Planet Chronicle Digital about the precision strike targeting terrorists who used a school compound as a command and control center. He criticized the U.N. for condemning Israel instead of Hamas for using civilian buildings for military purposes, which is a war crime under the Geneva Conventions.
UNRWA is deeply involved with the Hamas terrorist organization, as evidenced by the fact that their staff regularly celebrates terrorist attacks against Israelis and Jews, and many of their leaders are senior officials within Hamas. For example, Suhail al-Hindi, who led the UNRWA teachers union in Gaza for many years, is a member of the Hamas political bureau, along with Yahya Sinwar. Similarly, the head of the UNRWA teachers' union in Lebanon, Fathi al-Sharif, is a senior Hamas terrorist, as documented on unwatch.org.
It is imperative for all western governments, including those providing more than a billion dollars to UNRWA, to cease funding a terror-infested agency. The Swiss parliament has already called for the end of funding, and we urge other democracies, including the U.S., UK, France, Germany, and Japan, to follow suit.
The Swiss parliament's decision to suspend funding to UNRWA is incomprehensible, given the agency's crucial role in providing humanitarian aid in Gaza. Switzerland has long been recognized for its commitment to humanitarian aid and its leadership in promoting international humanitarian law.
Parliamentarians who voted to phase out a U.N. General Assembly mandated Agency without offering a political alternative to Palestinians under occupation are once again on the wrong side of history, according to Touma.
UNRWA funding was halted by the U.S. due to the involvement of some of its staff in the Oct. 7 massacre. President Biden had previously resumed aid to the agency after Trump's decision to cut off funding in 2018.
