The new Israeli ambassador delivers a stern message to the UN regarding Hezbollah and Iran's inaction.
Danny Danon urged the UN Security Council to act on a resolution to halt Hezbollah, or Israel may have no choice but to defend itself.
The Israeli ambassador to the UN has issued a stern warning to the international body amid rising tensions with Hezbollah and concerns about Iran's nuclear capabilities.
According to Ambassador Danny Danon, Security Council Resolution 1701 specified that only the Lebanese military should be present in southern Lebanon. However, since 2006, there has been a significant change in the situation.
"Hezbollah seized control of the region and turned it into a hub for terrorism with thousands of rockets, which have caused harm in recent months. If the U.N. cannot enforce the resolution, we must take action to remove Hezbollah from our community in the north."
Dealing with Iran is necessary to address groups in the Middle East, including Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, and the Houthis in Yemen.
He stated that it is time for not only Israel to address Iran, but for Western democracies to recognize the need to exert pressure on Iran and take action to prevent them from acquiring nuclear capabilities.
"Danon stated on April 14 that when hundreds of projectiles were sent into Israel, he imagined their nuclear capabilities, and he vowed not to wait for that day and not to allow them to acquire nuclear capabilities."
In May, Gilad Erdan resigned as the permanent representative to the U.N., and was replaced by Danon, who had previously held the role from 2015 until 2020. After that, Danon became the Minister of Science, Technology and Space.
During the Oct. 7 attack and the initial nine months of Israel's incursion into the Gaza Strip, Erdan served in the U.N. as the Israeli Defense Forces searched for Hamas.
Erdan gained international recognition for his passionate speeches, such as tearing up the U.N. charter and referring to the United Nations as a failed organization. Recently, he stated that the U.N. building in Jerusalem should be shut down and removed from existence.
On the contrary, Danon believes that the U.N. can be rescued, provided that the U.S. takes charge and imposes changes through imposition of demands.
"Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon stated on Planet Chronicle Digital, "The UN was unable to condemn the actions on October 7th, and I cannot accept that.""
Danon argued that the U.N. did not condemn Israel's actions, despite the Security Council, General Assembly, and small show of condemnation.
""I believe the U.N. is crucial, and we must reform it to prioritize its primary objectives of maintaining security and peace, rather than serving as a tool for hate and provocation by extremist nations," he stated."
"Danon argued that the strongest country, which allocates the most budget, should make demands and scrutinize the U.N.'s performance, resolutions, and accountability to ensure that the focus is on the right places. However, he stated that this is not happening today."
In 2022, the United States provided over $18 billion to the United Nations, which represented one-third of the organization's total budget, as stated by the Council on Foreign Relations.
