Russian foreign minister reportedly expresses dissatisfaction with peace deal proposed by Trump's team.
The Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov asserted that the plan was leaked.
Russia's foreign minister has rejected a reported peace deal involving Ukraine and NATO, stating that the proposals were made by President-elect Trump's advisors.
In an interview with TASS, a state-owned Russian news agency, on Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the U.S. intends to halt hostilities along the frontline and delegate the responsibility for confronting Russia to the Europeans.
The foreign minister stated that they are not pleased with the proposals made by the Trump team to delay Ukraine's admission to NATO for 20 years and to station British and European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine, even though no official announcement has been made about this deal.
Lavrov stated that the proposal originated from "leaks" and Trump's recent interview with TIME Magazine, but the interview did not mention NATO. The foreign minister also asserted that NATO's expansion into Ukraine was a significant factor in the crisis.
"The foreign minister advised those accusing Russia of wrongdoings to examine their own actions first, specifically NATO's involvement in Ukraine's conflict."
"Lavrov stated that NATO is involved in the invasion of the Kursk Region and long-range missile strikes within Russia, as President Putin had previously made clear in his public statements."
In his TIME Person of the Year interview, Trump stated that it would be beneficial for both sides to end the Russo-Ukrainian conflict and asserted that Russia wouldn't have invaded Ukraine if he had been president in 2022.
"I strongly oppose the idea of launching missiles into Russia, hundreds of miles away. What is the purpose of this? Trump stated at the time. "We are only intensifying the conflict and making it worse… However, I am determined to reach a resolution, and the only way to achieve this is by not giving up."
Over a week after Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed a willingness to compromise with Trump, Lavrov gave an interview, asserting that Russia is currently in a stronger position than it was in 2022.
"Soon, those Ukrainians who want to fight will run out. In my opinion, soon there will be no one left who wants to fight," Putin was quoted as saying. "We are ready, but the other side needs to be ready for both negotiations and compromises."
"We have consistently stated our readiness for negotiations and compromises."
Trump's team did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
