On Saturday, South Korean lawmakers voted to impeach President Yoon Suk Yeol due to his recent martial law declaration.
The National Assembly passed the motion in a 204-85 vote on Saturday.
After receiving copies of the impeachment document, Yoon's presidential powers and duties will be suspended on Saturday.
If the court decides to dismiss Yoon as president, a national election to select his successor must be held within 60 days. The court has 180 days to decide whether to remove Yoon's powers or reinstate him as president.
