On Wednesday, Reuters reported that Narges Mohammadi, an Iranian Nobel Peace Prize laureate, was released from Evin prison after her jail term was suspended to allow her to receive medical treatment, as her husband Taqi Rahmani informed the media.
In Tehran's infamous Evin prison, Mohammadi is currently serving time on charges of spreading propaganda against the Islamic Republic.
According to the statement of Mostafa Nili, the lawyer of Narges Mohammadi, the Tehran Prosecutor's Office suspended her jail sentence for three weeks and she was released from prison based on the opinion of the forensic doctor.
"Her physical condition after a tumor removal and bone grafting operation 21 days ago is the reason for her need to be examined every three months."
The Norwegian Nobel Committee's head expressed concern about the long-term suffering of the laureate.
Joergen Watne Frydnes, in a statement, urged the Iranian authorities to permanently release the woman and provide her with appropriate medical care for her ailments.
