Netanyahu responds to Trump's threat of consequences if Hamas does not release hostages.
Before taking office in January, Trump desires the Palestinian terrorist group to free its hostages.
Netanyahu believes Trump is correct in his threat of consequences if Hamas does not free their hostages.
Netanyahu stated on Tuesday during a cabinet meeting that President Trump placed the focus on Hamas rather than the Israeli government, which is typically the case.
On Monday, Trump urged Hamas to free all hostages before his inauguration on January 20.
Trump stated in a Truth Social post that no action has been taken to free the hostages held by the Iran-backed terror group since October 7, 2023, following the Hamas attack on Israel that resulted in the deaths of at least 1,200 people and the kidnapping of at least 250 others. Out of the 101 hostages still in Gaza, seven are American citizens.
Trump wrote: "The hostages being held violently, inhumanely, and against the will of the entire World in the Middle East are the subject of much discussion, but no concrete action is being taken."
If the hostages are not released before January 20, 2025, the date when I will assume the presidency of the United States, there will be dire consequences in the Middle East, and those responsible for committing these heinous acts against humanity will face severe retribution.
The message also drew support from Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich.
According to Reuters, he stated that the only way to rescue the hostages is by intensifying the pressure and expenses on Hamas and its allies, and ultimately defeating them, rather than succumbing to their unreasonable requests.
