Months after being injured in a Gaza pier mission, a U.S. soldier has died from his wounds.
Sgt. Stanley, 23, was a 'pivotal' leader.
An American soldier who sustained injuries during the Gaza pier mission last summer passed away, the U.S. Army announced.
On October 31, Sgt. Quandarius Davon Stanley, 23, passed away. He was one of three soldiers injured during the Gaza pier mission, which aimed to provide humanitarian aid to Gazans amid the Israel-Hamas war.
The attempt to establish a temporary pier for delivering aid to Gaza by the Biden administration was unsuccessful. Despite starting in May and ending in July, the project cost approximately $230 million and fell short of its promised aid delivery.
Despite the military's classification of the mission as a success, bad weather and miscalculations had led to its failures.
The Army confirmed the death of Stanley, a young soldier who had recently retired from the military and was receiving long-term medical care.
Colonel John Gray, commander of the 7th Transportation Brigade Expeditionary (TBX), stated that Stanley was a highly respected and crucial leader in the unit, particularly during the mission to aid the people of Gaza.
In June, two soldiers on the mission sustained a sprained ankle and a minor back injury, respectively, as reported by the deputy commander of U.S. Central Command.
An Israeli hospital received an injured third service member who was supporting the mission, but his name was not disclosed at the time.
U.S. Vice Admiral Brad Cooper stated, "We remain vigilant and maintain a focus on force protection at all times. Our current assessment indicates that operations can continue."
The U.S. Army did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's request for comment.
