Israel to shut down embassy in Ireland due to perceived anti-Israel actions.
Irish officials say they did not cross any red lines.
The Israeli government has announced plans to shut down its embassy in Ireland due to the Irish government's perceived anti-Israel stance.
On Sunday, Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar announced that Israel's ambassador to Ireland had been recalled from Dublin. Saar stated that the Irish government had "crossed every red line" and cited the nation's decision to recognize a Palestinian state as the reason for the recall.
Saar stated that Ireland's actions and anti-Semitic rhetoric against Israel are based on the de-legitimization and demonization of the Jewish state, as well as double standards.
He stated that Israel will allocate its resources to enhance its bilateral relations with countries globally, taking into account the attitudes and actions of these states towards Israel.
The Irish Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister both expressed regret over the decision, with the latter giving a more detailed statement.
Martin expressed regret that the decision had been made, stating his firm belief in the significance of maintaining diplomatic communication channels.
He stated that Ireland's stance on the Middle East conflict has always been based on international law and the duty of all states to follow international humanitarian law.
As tensions between the West and nations like Russia and Iran escalate, Israel is reportedly considering further strikes against Iran's nuclear program, which has been deemed a significant threat by Jerusalem and its allies.
The Biden administration and its international partners, including the International Atomic Energy Agency, have urged Israel not to attack Iran's nuclear facilities.
In late October, the IDF hit and degraded part of Iran's nuclear program in a retaliatory strike, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cautioned that it was not sufficient to prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon.
