Iran's president rejects allegation that Iran attempted to assassinate Trump.
Iran's president declares that the country will never attempt to assassinate Trump.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that his country "never" planned to assassinate President-elect Trump and reaffirmed that "we never will."
During an interview with NBC News' Lester Holt in Tehran on Tuesday, Pezeshkian revealed that U.S. intelligence authorities had previously stated that Iran was considering an attempt on Trump's life before the election.
"Another scheme promoting Iranophobia is being designed by Israel and other countries. However, Iran has never attempted nor does it plan to assassinate anyone, as far as I know."
Did you say that there was no Iranian plot to assassinate Donald Trump, Holt inquired?
""We have never tried this and we never will," Pezeshkian stated."
Ret. Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, Trump's incoming special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, stated that the United States must adopt a "maximum pressure" policy on Iran.
Kellogg stated that the United States should reinstate a policy of maximum pressure, with the support of the global community, including standing with the Iranian people and their desire for democracy.
The former general stated that Iran's acquisition of a nuclear weapon would be the most destabilizing event in the Middle East. Kellogg reminded the opposition group that Trump abandoned the Iran nuclear deal during his first term, despite opposition from members of the first administration.
In 2018, Trump withdrew from the Iran nuclear deal and imposed crippling economic sanctions. While some, including Netanyahu, supported the move, the leaders of the UK, France, and Germany urged the president to stay committed to the deal.
Kellog's recent comments, made before Trump's second term begins, indicate that a new administration will face the threat posed by Iran in a region where much of the Middle East has been engulfed in conflict since the Oct. 7 terrorist attack on Israel.
