Houthi attacks in Gulf of Aden repelled by US Navy for the second time in weeks.
While transiting the Gulf of Aden from Dec. 9 to Dec. 10, the USS Stockdale and USS O'Kane were subjected to attacks.
For the second time in a month, Houthi missiles and drones were shot down by U.S. Navy destroyers, as announced by U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) on Tuesday.
On Dec. 9 and 10, the USS Stockdale (DDG 106) and USS O’Kane (DDG 77) successfully defeated a range of Houthi-launched weapons while transiting the Gulf of Aden, the Navy announced.
U.S. owned and operated merchant vessels were being escorted by ships when they successfully engaged and defeated multiple one-way attacks, uncrewed aerial systems, and one anti-ship cruise missile.
In the past month, this attack is the second, following the first from Nov. 30 to Dec. 1, where the ships successfully defeated an Iran-backed Houthi attack.
CENTCOM forces are committed to safeguarding U.S. personnel, regional partners, and international shipping from Iran-backed Houthis, as evidenced by their ongoing actions, the command stated.
No American personnel were injured, and there were no injuries or damage to the ships, according to CENTCOM.
Houthi militants are continuing their attacks on shipping and have pledged to persist until Israel ends its campaign in Gaza.
