Experts say that the Biden-Harris administration's treatment of the conflicts in Ukraine and Israel differs significantly.
An ex-intel official claims that the Biden-Harris administration has been attempting to mollify Iran by attempting to control Israel's military operations.
The ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and Israel are prompting President Biden and Vice President Harris to confront their perceived inadequacy in supporting an Israeli triumph over Iran-backed Hamas and Hezbollah proxies.
Experts on the Mideast and Russia were consulted by Planet Chronicle Digital for their opinions on the distinct war strategies adopted by Biden and Harris regarding Ukraine and Israel.
According to David Wurmser, a former senior adviser for nonproliferation and Middle East strategy for former Vice President Dick Cheney, the strategic behavior of the United States toward Ukraine and Israel differs significantly.
"The United States has never recognized Russia's reasons for invasion, and a cease-fire may be sought, but there is no indulgence of Russia's grievances or demands. On the other hand, the October 7 attack on Palestinians was condemned as a horror, and Israel's immediate defense was accepted. However, the U.S. policy soon shifted, and with greater intensity, it was believed that a legitimate grievance underlies Palestinian claims and led to these events."
The Biden-Harris administration has embraced Palestinian demands and sought to push Israel to accept a two-state solution before the Oct. 7 Hamas invasion and after Hamas massacred nearly 1,200 people in Israel.
The language of Biden and Harris towards Ukraine and Israel reveals a disconnect. In September, after Russian missiles killed more than 50 during an attack on a training facility and hospital, Biden stated, "Russia will not succeed in this war. The people of Ukraine will triumph. And on this sorrowful day, and every day, the United States stands with them."
Biden and Harris have largely shunned terminology that advances victory when discussing Israel's ground wars against Hamas and Hezbollah in Lebanon. They went as far as to threaten Israel with punitive measures if the Jewish state invaded the last stronghold of Hamas in the city of Rafah. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called their bluff and defeated Hamas in Rafah, including the elimination of its terrorist leader Yahya Sinwar last month.
The leaders of France, Germany, the UK, and the US announced last month that they remain committed to supporting Ukraine in its efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace. In the same statement, they emphasized the need to end the war in Gaza, sending a clear message to Israel that its anti-terrorism actions are not acceptable.
Hamas terrorists still remain in the Gaza Strip, and their leadership refuses to end their efforts to destroy Israel.
Critics of the Biden-Harris administration argue that the juxtaposition of U.S. policies and language toward the prosecution of wars in Ukraine and in Gaza and Lebanon has revolved around blunting Israel's paths to victory and its efforts to re-establish deterrence. However, experts contend that Ukraine has not experienced the same offensive war restrictions from the Biden-Harris administration as Israel.
Wurmser observed that Ukraine has not been able to stop the war in a way that allows its enemy to consolidate its gains and achieve victory, despite efforts from the United States to move towards a cease-fire. In contrast, Israel has been under pressure from the United States to cease fire from the beginning of the war.
The United States urged Israel to remain passive during the Hezbollah attack on Israel in October 2023, and again during the Houthis' blockade of Israel's southern port and subsequent attacks on Israeli cities and shipping in late October 2023. However, the US failed to provide Israel with the necessary security after missiles and drones were sent by Iraqi militias into Israeli cities and ports in November 2023.
The Houthi movement in Yemen and pro-Iran Iraqi militias are backed by Iran's government.
Biden and Harris have imposed a restriction on Ukraine's use of long-range missiles, but Zelenskyy appealed to the White House in a late September meeting to increase Ukraine's leverage to defeat Russia by lifting the ban on long-range missiles that can strike Russian territory. Key Republican lawmakers also urged Biden and Harris to permit Ukraine to use the U.S. long-range missile systems.
Rebekah Koffler, a former U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency officer, stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that the Biden-Harris administration has been attempting to appease Iran by micromanaging Israel's war-fighting campaign, which aims to eliminate an existential threat. This incompetent approach, which involves constantly pressuring Netanyahu to do a cease-fire and not allowing him to finish the job, is inviting escalation from Iran. Iran has become emboldened, having witnessed that the Biden-Harris administration does not have Israel's back. As a result, Iran has gotten so out of control that they have targeted Netanyahu's home, and the Ayatollahs clearly feel that the Biden-Harris administration is on their side.
On Saturday, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei mocked the U.S. and Israel with a "tooth-breaking" response to their actions. In response to Israel's Oct. 26 attack on Iran, which targeted critical military infrastructure, Iran's regime vowed to launch a third attack on Israel. This attack from Israel came after a wave of 200-some missiles were launched from Iran into Israel on Oct. 1.
The White House and the Harris campaign did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's press inquiries.
