Canada will not become part of the US, according to Trudeau.
President-elect Biden's musings about Canada becoming the 51st state prompt Trudeau to make comments.
"Canada will never be part of the United States, according to Trudeau."
While addressing a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, on Tuesday, Trump stated that Canada should be a state. In response, Trudeau issued a statement.
On Monday, the president-elect stated on social media that "numerous individuals in Canada cherish being the 51st State."
He emphasized that if Canada and the U.S. merged, there would be no tariffs, taxes would decrease, and Canada would be completely safe from Russian and Chinese ships that are always surrounding them.
"If we were united, we could make our country even greater!" Trump exclaimed in his social media post.
On Monday, Trudeau resigned as prime minister after Trump repeatedly referred to him as "governor" and threatened to impose massive tariffs on Canada.
After facing criticism over his handling of the economy and pressure from within his own Liberal Party, Trudeau announced that he intends to resign as party leader and prime minister once a new leader is chosen.
For nearly a decade, Trudeau led the nation, but in recent months, his approval ratings have significantly dropped due to mounting frustration over issues such as the high cost of living and inflation.
The Liberal Party can appoint an interim prime minister to lead the country until the elections next fall, potentially giving them a chance to regain support.
Trump has also urged Denmark to sell Greenland to the U.S., in addition to his obsession with Canada.
