Brazil's first lady makes an explicit joke at Elon Musk, a key target of her husband's administration.
In 2022, Janja Lula da Silva wed Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the current President of Brazil.
During an official event over the weekend, the first lady of Brazil shocked many when she used an f-word to criticize Tesla CEO Elon Musk.
During a pre-G20 social event on Saturday, Brazil's first lady, Janja Lula da Silva, discussed the issue of misinformation on social media. The G20 summit commenced on Monday in Rio de Janeiro.
Lula, wife of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, paused her speech upon hearing a distant ship's horn.
"The first lady joked in Portuguese, "I believe it's Elon Musk," while adding, "I'm not scared of you, you know.""
"Elon Musk, F–k you," Lula exclaimed in English, earning applause from the crowd.
Musk responded to the clip on X with laughing emojis.
"They will lose the next election," the entrepreneur wrote.
In September, Brazil's Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes banned X due to misinformation on the platform, which he deemed inadequately moderated. This move sparked outrage worldwide.
The ban was lifted a month later, and de Moraes stated that the decision was based solely on X's compliance with Brazilian laws and strict adherence to the Judiciary's decisions, out of respect for national sovereignty.
"X expressed pride in returning to Brazil and stated that providing access to their platform for tens of millions of Brazilians was crucial throughout the process. They also emphasized their commitment to defending freedom of speech within the law in all their operations."
The Brazilian first lady's joke occurred two days before the G20 summit commenced. President Biden was present at the summit, but he did not participate in the annual family photo with other world leaders due to logistical reasons.
