Biden appears to be claiming responsibility for Assad's fall as concerns about the resurgence of Islamic State loom.
Biden states that our approach has shifted the equilibrium of influence in the Middle East.
The collapse of the Syrian dictatorship of Bashar Assad has led to criticism of the Biden administration's efforts to claim a victory over one of the most brutal regimes in the Middle East.
There are concerns about whether Biden's foreign policy team overlooked Syria, where approximately 900 U.S. troops and military contractors are based in the northeastern region of the war-torn country.
On Sunday, President Biden appeared to declare a victory for his administration's foreign policy in the Middle East, stating, "Our approach has shifted the balance of power in the region."
The unwavering support of the United States has enabled Ukraine and Israel to defend themselves with unyielding determination, resulting in the current situation.
John Hannah, a senior fellow at the Jewish Institute for National Security of America's Gemunder Center for Defense and Strategy and who served as Vice President Dick Cheney's national security adviser, stated on Planet Chronicle Digital that President Biden's attempts to claim credit for the weakening of Iran and Hezbollah are unseemly.
SYRIAN DICTATOR BASHAR ASSAD FLEES INTO EXILE AS ISLAMIST REBELS CONQUER COUNTRY
If Israel had followed the Biden administration's advice over the past 14 months of war, Iran and Hezbollah would have been far stronger and Israel far weaker than they are today, according to Hannah, who also served in the Clinton administration.
"President Biden's unwavering support of Israel's ability to defend itself against the multifront war launched by Iran and its proxies on Oct. 7, 2023, is commendable. However, what he failed to do was provide the same unwavering support for Israel's ability to win the war by inflicting a comprehensive defeat on its enemies, particularly Iran and Hezbollah, which was necessary to make last week's historic events in Syria possible."
"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated at a press conference on Monday that the collapse of the Syrian regime is a direct result of the severe blows inflicted on Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran. He added that challenges are still expected in the campaign and that his hand is outstretched."
President-elect Trump's recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights in 2019 was also appreciated by him.
"Israel will forever consider the Golan to be an inseparable part of its territory," he stated, according to Israeli news agency TPS-IL.
Since the Hamas terrorists from Gaza killed nearly 1,200 people, including more than 40 Americans, on Oct. 7, 2023, in southern Israel, the Biden administration has sought to limit Israel's efforts to eliminate Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists in Lebanon and refrain from launching counterstrikes against Iran's regime.
A senior administration official mirrored Biden's confidence, stating that U.S. policy has significantly altered the Middle East equation, as the president had previously mentioned.
According to Behnam Ben Taleblu, an Iran expert and senior fellow with the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, it is strange that the administration, which had previously been cautious in its actions against the Assad regime and its sponsor, Iran, is now attempting to claim responsibility for the regime's fall.
"Biden's risk-averse approach to the region has been defined by less, not more. Over the past year, the administration has watched Israel box in the Iran-backed threat network in the region, and in doing so, break taboos that have long hindered Washington's regional policy."
Obama-Biden failures
In 2011, during the Syrian civil war, Democrat politicians such as former Secretary of State John Kerry and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi met with Assad before he used chemical weapons on his population. According to former National Security Council spokesperson Gordon Johndroe, Pelosi's 2007 visit with Assad convinced the regime that its actions supporting terrorists had no consequences.
Experts claim that the Biden and Obama administrations have deeply misjudged Middle East dictators and radical Islamist movements.
The Biden-Harris administration faced criticism from Congress over the reportedly hasty and flawed withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, which led to the Taliban taking control of the country and the U.S. military equipment.
Islamic State threats
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., stated that there are over 50,000 ISIS prisoners being held by Kurdish forces who helped President Trump destroy the caliphate. These ISIS fighters planned and executed plots against the American homeland and our allies. A breakout and reestablishment of ISIS is a major threat to the U.S. and our friends. Obama and Biden made a big mistake, which required President Trump to clean up their mess.
On Sunday, U.S. Central Command announced it launched dozens of key strikes against ISIS in an effort to prevent the terror group from exploiting the unstable situation in Syria.
Over the years, the Syrian Kurds have been subjected to severe attacks from Turkey and pro-Turkey Syrian Sunni jihadist groups, including ISIS.
The Syrian Democratic Council mission representative in the US, Sinam Sherkany Mohamad, stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that the objective of all Syrians is to defeat Assad and establish a pluralistic democratic system that safeguards the rights of all ethnic and religious groups and promotes diversity in Syria.
Mohamad stated that ISIS remains active in the Syrian desert with sleeper cells in northern and eastern Syria, posing a threat to our people, including the prisons of ISIS fighters and the Al-Holl camp. He warned that the current situation could encourage ISIS to become active again.
Rep. Abraham Hamadeh, R-Ariz., stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that President Biden's weak leadership has led to a deterioration of deterrence and prompted allies to hedge their bets. Trump recognized the importance of arming the Kurds and collaborating with them to dismantle ISIS, which was a critical success. The reward for standing with America should never be betrayal or abandonment.
Hamadeh, whose parents are Syrian immigrants, stated, "It is crucial to safeguard Syrian Kurdish civilians from being caught in the crossfire and to include them in any peace negotiations."
Max Abrahms, a renowned expert on counterterrorism and a tenured professor of political science at Northeastern University, stated to Planet Chronicle Digital that ISIS is expected to remain a significant issue in the new Syria. The Kurds and America share a strategic alignment on this matter, as both view ISIS as a severe threat. As ISIS becomes more of a problem, the rationale for maintaining American forces to collaborate with the Syrian Democratic Forces grows stronger.
The Syrian Democratic Forces, led by the Kurds and supported by the United States, have played a crucial role in preventing the expansion of ISIS in Syria.
