On Friday, a Russian tourist died on Koh Samui, Thailand, after being swept away by a massive wave while doing yoga on a rock at a popular viewpoint.
Local news outlets identified the woman as 24-year-old Kamilla Beliatskaya.
A red car was seen in CCTV footage at the Laad Koh viewpoint parking lot around 1 p.m., with Beliatskaya arriving.
She retrieved a pink yoga mat from the car trunk and walked down to the rocky area below the viewpoint alone.
Video footage later revealed Beliatskaya being swept away by a massive wave, leaving horrified onlookers helplessly watching the tragedy unfold.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., the Bo Phut Police Station received a report that a woman had gone missing.
Khaosod English reported that she was last seen struggling in the rough waters, with waves reaching heights up to nine feet.
Beliatskaya could not be found by water rescue teams after they suspended operations after 30 minutes due to deteriorating wave conditions.
Due to hazardous conditions, Jet Ski operators took their vehicles off the beach earlier in the day.
Near the Laad Koh viewpoint in Moo 6, Bo Phut District, Surat Thani Province in Thailand, an incident occurred. Surat Thani is known for its popular tourist islands, including Koh Samui, Koh Tao, and Koh Phangan.
The Samui Rescue Center's head, Chaiyaporn Subprasert, informed the publication that all beaches on the island had warning systems in place.
"The tourist was caught off guard by the unexpected wave surge at a viewpoint for scenery during monsoon season, despite the constant warnings at high-risk areas like Chaweng and Lamai beaches."
On Saturday at approximately 11 p.m., the police received a report that a body was discovered on Chaweng Noi Beach. The body was identified as Beliatskaya, and her boyfriend, Grigorii Anokhin, confirmed the identification, according to Khaosod English.
Visitors were advised to exercise great caution during monsoon season and to steer clear of rocky coastal regions when the waves are big.
