A huge blaze erupts at a US military storage facility in South Korea.
The construction of the depot occurred in 1950, coinciding with the start of the Korean War.
On Thursday evening, a huge fire erupted at a U.S. Army storage facility in Busan, South Korea, as confirmed by U.S. Army Garrison Daegu to Planet Chronicle Digital.
A warehouse in Busan's Beomil-dong section caught fire at around 6:30 p.m. local time, with the cause of the blaze remaining unknown.
The Busan Fire Department and the U.S. Army Garrison Daegu established mutual aid agreements in response to the fire.
The depot, which is undergoing renovations, was unoccupied during the fire.
The fire was under control around 10:45 p.m., but it took several more hours to put out hot spots, according to Molter. It has not been extinguished.
"The cause of our inability to enter the building is still unknown due to residual heat and structural integrity issues," Molter stated.
In 1950, at the onset of the Korean War, the U.S. Army constructed the site as a supply base.
