A 23-year-old hiker was discovered alive after surviving for two weeks in the Australian mountain range.
On December 26, 23-year-old Hadi Nazari disappeared in Kosciuszko National Park.
A medical student who went missing in a remote Australian mountain range for two weeks has been found.
On Dec. 26, 2024, Hadi Nazari from Melbourne disappeared in the Kosciuszko National Park in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales state after separating from two hiking companions to take photos, according to the Associated Press.
On Wednesday, police stated that he managed on two muesli bars, foraged berries, and creek water.
On Wednesday afternoon, a hiker who was lost and thirsty approached a group of hikers, and his rescue ensued, according to Police Inspector Josh Broadfoot.
"Broadfoot stated, according to Reuters, that it was incredible that Nazari had emerged after fourteen days of searching and was in such great spirits and condition."
In the national park that houses Mount Kosciuszko, over 300 individuals searched for the hiker who had traveled more than six miles across rugged and heavily wooded terrain since his last sighting.
On Wednesday, Nazari was reunited with his two hiking friends before being flown to a hospital for a medical assessment. Video showed them in a deep embrace prior to his departure.
Weather conditions are mild during the current Southern Hemisphere summer.
Nazari, an experienced hiker with a tent, had been optimistically believed to be found alive by searchers. Recent discoveries of his campfire, camera, and hiking poles suggest that he was still walking.
Ambulance Insp. Adam Mower said Nazari only needed treatment for dehydration.
Mower remarked that the person's condition was remarkable, given their prolonged absence.
The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.
