The mayor's spokesperson defends meeting with a controversial Chinese diplomat who praised the CCP.
In recent months, Huang has attended several esteemed US universities.
The mayor's spokesperson is defending a recent meeting with a controversial Chinese diplomat who has frequently praised the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
Huang Ping, the consul general of China's New York Consulate since 2018, recently posted on X that he met with Philadelphia's Mayor Parker and Tianjin's Executive Deputy Mayor Liu Guiping together.
"China-US relations are being fueled by exchanges at the subnational level. Let's continue this trend," he said.
Despite his past statements and rising concerns from the American public about China's aggressive presence in the United States, Huang has met with officials at several prominent universities over the past year.
Huang, who met with Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker, has previously characterized the CCP as a "great party" and has maintained that China is not targeting the Muslim Uyghur population in China.
"Huang stated in an August 2021 interview that there are numerous falsehoods about genocide and internment camps targeting Uyghurs, which were fabricated by individuals with their own political objectives. He denied the existence of genocide and emphasized that there is no evidence to support it. Instead, he characterized the claims as a form of slander."
The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and the State Department have both determined that China is committing genocide against the Uyghurs. Since 2017, over a million Uyghurs have been imprisoned in concentration camps, where they are reportedly subjected to rape, torture, forced labor, brainwashing, and forced sterilization, according to leaked documents from inside China.
Mayor Parker's office confirmed that the mayor and city officials followed proper protocol and showed respect when meeting with official representatives of China, as stated by a spokesperson. When asked about Huang's previous statements, the spokesperson did not provide any information on whether the mayor was aware of them.
"The spokesperson stated that the meeting was to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Sister City relationship between Philadelphia and Tianjin, as well as the 50th anniversary of the first tour of the Philadelphia Orchestra in China."
Huang has consistently supported the CCP and amplified the agenda of Chinese President Xi Jinping by promoting CCP talking points on X.
Huang previously met with Democrat lawmakers in Pennsylvania, a local economic council, and officials at Ivy League and other prestigious universities.

Concerns about China's presence in the United States across various sectors, including academia, government, health care, and social media, have intensified as Huang meets with top officials.
"According to Michael Sobolik, author of "Countering China’s Great Game: A Strategy for American Dominance," the Chinese Communist Party is determined to maintain its control at the nuclear level and below, and it is not limited to infiltrating universities. The party aims to infiltrate every aspect of American society."

Sobolik stated that in order to successfully wage a cold war and win, we must not only insulate ourselves from the infiltrations and threats sent by the CCP, but also engage in good housekeeping as a minimum effort.
"To win the cold war, American policymakers must not only address the problems created by the Chinese Communist Party but also create problems for the CCP to respond to. We must seize the initiative in this competition."
When asked about her concerns over China's growing presence in the U.S., Parker's office stated that she cares about the various communities and groups in our cities and will engage with stakeholders who serve and may represent them.
"The Biden administration manages the foreign affairs of the United States under President Biden's leadership."
Huang's office did not respond to Planet Chronicle Digital's inquiry.
